View Full Version : CAI.. Something I spotted
SO yeah, everyones doing either a podbox or a filter and MAS relocation, but has anyone tried this injen example from some smaller mitsu's? (lancers, eclipse) Instead of putting the pod onto the MAS and then the MAS down at the front bar, this might be better..
So instead of this...

How bout this...

What I'm saying is maybe it'll help save the lives of a few MAS's and our pocket money keeping them out of harms way, however it'll of course be a bit more expensive.. but you get the idea.. plus you don't have to chop your MAS harness..
what do you think??

good idea though cant say ive heard many people's maf sensors stuff up because of the cai?
one other thing. The maf sensor needs to read straight air. Though when air runs through cylindrical piping it starts to twirl. So when the maf is located right after the pod filter the air is mostly straight. Though as it goes along the piping it will start to twirl and readings will be less accurate.

and also according to graham west workshop the closer the MAF is to the engine the better as it give a more accurate reading and is eaier to tune on the dyno

have a look down th guts of the maf and discover that the mesh is accualy a guide for the air, straitening it up for an accurate reading.

Yes true its there to help make air flow straight. but then why would k&n filters specifically make a air filter for cars with maf sensors that makes air flow straight into the inlet.
and why do some cars with generic pod filters experience problems?

It's to HELP guide the air, you put a different air filter in front of a karman vortex sensor and it will read incorrectly, for example a round pod, because the honeycomb isnt 100% efficient.

i've already done that

Well they arn't actually products for Magnas, I was just thinking maybe it could work which is why I made this thread instead of walking out and getting it made then finding out it SUCKS@!#!.. However for the second gen magnas you can get the 3000GT Non-Turbo intake kit from Injen, comes with filter and hose clamps, whole deal but basically is just a pretty stainless version of whats already there.
Another reason I posted this was becase I remember, somewhere on here, reading that someone was having a poopy and his MAS being relocated down there and getting dunked so I thought if this would work then it'd do the SAME job and have prevention of dunking the MAS, although, I don't know about you but I don't take my car swimming all that often... Plus the ease of not cutting the wiring and it'd be easier to bend and place just a pod and not a pod and MAS.
Choogna, What have you already done?? An intake like in one of those pics or what?
