Hi...
Can't work this one out...when the clutch pedal is released and I am stationary in neutral I can hear this dull sort of dry grinding sound...a bit like something turning that is lacking lubrication. When I depress the clutch pedal and the clutch is engaged the noise stops. Maybe it's not the Release Bearing because then the noise would occur when the clutch pedal is depressed...?? Anyone come across this one before?

Yeah, it was the thrust bearing. It was just free spinning and *****in away with the clutch out (it still touches) and when you put it in the extra load caused it to shut up. Sounds backwards but wtf it what it was in my case. (not a magna though):)

as suggested above is highly likely, my car does it but it is more of a squeak when your off the clutch or when you touch the pedal lightly.
The other possible cause of noise in neutral when the clutch pedal is out, is if the gearbox input shaft or layshaft support bearings are worn.
