Hi everybody,
as some of you might know i just bought a magna, its a 98 tf sports, 3.0 manual.
But when i bought it there was no central locking remote (i got 3 sets of keys though)
anyway i want to know if the car comes with a remote (so it has a reciever built in?)
so to get remote central locking is as easy as buying a remote and reprograming it?

or will i have to go to a wreckers and purchase the reciever unit then a remote?

Cheers.

Best to go to your nearest Mitsi dealer, buy 1 or 2 remotes, program them to your car (obviously).

I think they're about $40 to $50 each.

Buy new ones, you dont want a second hand unit.

I dont think you'll need any receiver unit, just the remotes, all magna's TE onwards should have remote central locking. Well a mates TE does anyway, so a 98 TF should. I could be mistaken though

Mine cost $120, so $40-50 is a frickin' good deal.

If mitsu is expensive I think you can get em off ebay pretty cheap. I was trying to find 1 for the TR but they didnt do the remote in key style but the did do the others.:D

Yrah they are round $40 from Mitsub. All 3rd gen magna's/Verada's have keyless entry. I cant remember if the tf's have the same 1 button setup as the KE's. Someone on here will let you know. Just go and buy one and prograsmm it youself. Dead easy to do. Just read manual.

All Magnas have RKE from TE onwards.

TE one button

TF three button (wagon has two)

TH-TW three button, one red one green, one little grey one and the only one you can replace the battery on.

Hi guys, the TE had the single button keyless entry keypad. (black keypad with grey button)

For the TF, the keypad was still black with grey buttons, but there was a separate boot release button on the keypad, which TE's did not have.

For TH to TL, there is a black keypad with red & green buttons + the little grey button for unlocking the boot.

I believe that any TH - TL keypad will work interchangably, as one day just for fun I tried to reprogram a keypad from a TL ES to make it work with my KH Verada, and it worked perfectly!

Perhaps the TE/TF keypads are different? The owner's manual (TH) says to insert the key into the ignition and within 5 seconds, flick it quickly back and forth from "Lock" to "On" four times. The hazard lights will flash if done correctly. At this point, press either button on your keypad, and if the car flashes again, it means that the keypad is now operational!

See if this is any help!

Hey i got the same model and year. Our remotes have three buttons (Lock, Unlock and Boot release). I got two keys with mine and a "master" key (grey handle). I need an extra remote as well due to my anti-screwdriverinthelocktrick (replacing the front door handles with rear ones). Lets us know how much you gotta fork out for them. The programming process is pretty straight forward (so the manual says), involves a bit of turning off and on with the ignition. Let me know if u need the exacts for the process ill pull em off my manual.

dude... the grey key is the **** key.. as in you give it to the valet parking kid.. this key can only open and start the car. it cannot open the boot or the glove box. it isn't the master.
