hey guys i just bought a tin of body deadner from super cheap, something like 4L for $40. Its just a paint on bitumin based stuff.
My question is will this be adequate to coat my door trims and parcel shelf in? I am using dynamat extreme for the actual tin on the doors and for anything else that i can stick it on to stop rattles basically.
anyways let me know your thoughts, also thinking of getting another tin of body filler for the boot to stop road noise and muffler noise for future upgrades.
cheers

i went through less then 1L of the stuff doing 2 door trims and the inside of both doors, so 4L is ampol for the next few years.
ill be doing my parcel shelf in this too when i can be bothered

yeah with a paint brush.
make sure you get every aera possible, no use doing a bang up job!
put newspaper under the areas ur doing for drips (duh)
id's say do 1 coat on the doors first, let ir dry (about 24hrs) and then see if you need another, if your going to put dynamat over the top, 1 coat should be fine.
just yeah, do it all in one day, im telling ya im sick of this stuff now after doing the doors, and now the bootlid...it stinks!

door trims you can leave off, but for the interior i recommend disconnecting the battery and leaving the doors open over night.
i couldnt, and had to keep the doors shut/windows open, smelt like absolute crap in there for a few days, its a really strong smell, so i recommend leving your doors open to get rid of the smell quicker.
can you PM me the prices you got on dynamat extreme? what pack and where from?

Put her on nice and thick.....You can usually thin it just a little (normally with turps) and spray it through a degreaser gun if you got the gear. You wont be using it as a degreaser gun again though.:D
Oh....wear olllllllld clothes .......that stuff sticks like **** to a blanket.lol :)

it also comes in cans, roughly $10 for a 400ml can...so that will save you some screwing around, but painting it on is the easier way.

It's such fun stuff! I did 3 coats of it on each front door with a couple of hours in between. Also used sheet deadener and sealed everything. My car is MOSTLY rattle free, just at horrendous volumes and at one particular freq does the door trim light up a bit. But yeah... overall, it really works well for the money! I'd use it AND dynamat extreme if I had the cash! :D

how many litres did you use for that?
was that just the trims on the tin part of the door. Im thinking about using it on the inside part of the door (tinny part) and using the dynamat on the outside. Any susgestions?

So all you do is take the trim off on your car and coat it with this paint???? Im thinking of doing it in my stock TH. Will it make a big difference to overall noise in the cabin??

well as an update the civic is now bare on the inside with no seats front or rear and no door trims
door trims have got 2 coats of body deadner on them each, which was about 2 litres.
And have used 1 1/2 sheets of dynmat extreme so far doing the inside of the doors. have done all the cuts outs to plug up the service holes with mdf and have affixed some of them just have to make some holes in 2 of them for the lock rods to pass through which have been duck taped up. Hopefully if all goes well ill have the outside of the door all sound deadened this arvo and door trims on the maybe speakers installed too when i get some from work this arvo.
Might have a look at pulling all the plastics out in the boot next weeknd to sound deaden all of that gear, then will begin on the boot install. So heaps of work still to do, might post pics up tomorrow for anyone needing pics on how to sound deaden your doors, or alternativly do what i did and jump on caraudioaustralia and get all the info from them
cheers

have completed deadening one door, has 3 sheets of dynamat extreme on it now and it has more of a thudding sound when its shut. Still have to make mdf speaker mounts to fit the diamond audios in there so could be a few more days before the car is back on the road yet.
how many sheets did you use on your doors tim? did you double layer it?

dunno really, cant add too much weight maybe 30kg all up, still gotta do my custom boot and all that. But you can add an easy 150kg when you add up sound deadening, amps, subs and boxes, just depends how far you wanna go, ill weigh it when i get home and find out anyways and let you know
