OMG!! i have the same noise!! but goes away after a good thrashing (Read: engine warmed up) lol
actually more when the car is cold i heare a "tink tink tink tink" sound, put the clutch in and its gone!!! :D take clutch out, its back :(
but when the engine is warm, its all good :P
Its your thrust bearings.
Its not doing any harm, just get it replaced when you need a new clutch
Mine used to do it, no longer! :)

okay, that solves ticking noises,
what about bubbling noising? eg.. "b'lob b'lob b'lob b'lob"
by a guess, it's around the same timing as the exhaust stroke. though I'm worried about it being the rocker cover or rocker springs being worn or loose.
I haven't done anything to the Headers or extractors, the Engine compartment is still stock...
It isn't loud, under acceleration you would not hear it, but it is clear during idle.
Could it be due to back pressure?
Sounds about right with the back pressure
i got that stupid blub noise too at idle

Yeah, rattle is definately clutch related. Apparently the Mitsu part is worth $700 without labour and it's a half day swap at least. Ask Funky_Fresian_Cows as I'm sure he'd have more to say on this. If you were going to go for a better clutch plate, (Killbilly loves his), and going to get an LSD, that would be the time to get it.
It's just a rattle and I've heard two stories.
a) it's just the noise it makes and won't get worse or go away
b) it's a sign that the clutch is on the way out and it will start slipping after a while
Mine was doing it when I picked it up and it's since done 48k km's. Rattle is still there and although I've got some shuddering when it's cold, it's fine. I'm more worried about that shuddering.
my car has the same, or similar problem...
you mean when youre in idle and then start letting the clutch out you get this loud CLACK CLACK CLACKing noise, but if you rev it, you dont hear it?
It happens to me hot and cold. Hope it isnt hurting anything.
The part (thrust bearing) is worth $150 dollars from mitsubishi (trade). The thing is labour would be the killer as the gearbox has to be removed which and as the gear box holds 3 of the 5 engine mounts, its not a partically easy job.
As for the TM-TP clack clack clack noise, I think I know the noise you are talking about, my old TM 5 speed used to make the same noise, I still to this day have no idea what it is.

Correct me if im wrong, but if you hear a ticking noise, wouldnt that be the injectors?
Apparently if there is ticking, thats a good thing, because it means they are clean?
or maybe not.... :D
Yes your correct, but this ticking noise is directly related to the clutch, so it has to be thrust bearing. Plus its so common in 5 speed TE onwards its not funny, everyone I know who has one has the same problem untill they get a new clutch

talk about a panic!!
I get in the car start her up and i hear this tick tick tick tick!
You can manage how u'd feel getting into ya new car and hearing that!
Anyway, well that's good it's nothing really major! Also is replacing the clutch expensive in magnas? I have mechanic friends that could install without charging too much labour, but $700 for a new clutch?! That's scary!

Well, The $700 I was told was for the clutch assembly itself, not just the thrust bearing. Would have been nice hearing the cheaper option which addressed the issue :)
Yeah, labour not cheap. You've got to pull have of it apart.

You're right but we're talking two rattles here. One the manual has and you can get a rattle with the lifters with old or the wrong oil. Should do a dry sump conversion

Use that Magnatek stuff. It's pretty good. If you use stuff that's too thin you'll probably suffer from noise hydraulic lifters which is the usual noise they can suffer.
Nah, I was only mucking about the drysump conversion. Here's some info though. There's several sports cars that have them these days.
