hey guys, im back (not that you noticed i was gone haha) from my little holiday, again! so yeh, last time i was banned i redid my interior, in silver, put some tv's in etc... so this time i thought id look to the out side of my car, ive alsayse been rather fond of the ol' "letter box" grille, so i had a crack at it, took about 2 days of sawing, fileing, sanding and fibre glassing but i think it turned out ok, still needs some bog on the lower cut out section to smooth it out and then another coat of paint, but it should look good concidering ive never even thought of fiberglassing, oh and if any one tries this, wear long clothing when sanding and filing the fibreglass, it completly skipped my mind and i did it in footy shorts with no top on....ITCHIEST NIGHTS SLEEP EVAR!!!11!, so yeh tell me what you think (keeping in mind its not %100 yet) oh needs meshing to aiite

You got any step-by-step photos/instructions for this? As I was thinking of doing it myself on mine. Figure chrome surround with black mesh in the centre and the chrome mitsi logo badge in the middle.

if your sanding fiberglassls again duct tape is your firned, i found this out one time in america sailing on a boat with lots of firberglass down stairs, put it on tha affected area then peal off, such a good feeling to get rid of it so quickly.

oh and i like the grill

mmmmmaybe i did, but i meant the car haha, yeh, just gonna get some blask metal fly screen mesh, none of that big silver crap, its pretty straight forward though, just take of the shroud where the little bonnet latch it, then undo all the clips holding the grille in, the saw and chop where you want, file, sand, fibreglass it back up, ill get a pic to show you where the clips are and ****, but after that, its just like a said before,

I like it.......its sorta like changing the TS grille into a TR one (my personal preference) Needs a little something....It looks a little too deep set..........maybe the mesh will do it.:D

its easy with a tr grill, if u want some help with it, just send me a message and i'll let u know wat i did

yeh gonna whack a mitsu symbol off a tj on it, i dont have a dremel either, woulda been so much better, i just used a hack saw blade (the ones with really really fine teeth on it, for plumbing and stuff) with tape wrapped around it, oh, and side cutters to get rid of the bulk of the stock plastic lattice stuff, its rather soft plastic so it doesnt crack all over the place if you cut it with pliers, i just cut it really rough then refined it with files, a really rough on to rip big chunks off, then a finer one, then a finer one again, and the sand paper to get it real nice and smooth, really guys, if ya wanna do it just go for it, its kinda hard to screw up, if you dont have a dremel, just do like i did, cut with a hack saw about 1/2 a centermeter from where yu want it and work it dow by filing and sanding, theres also that warm fuzzy feeling of making something with your hands and it turning out how you wanted hehe

So I guess my idea of doing it with a chrome grille gonna be expensive, cos you have to fibreglass and resray paint, so short of getting the grille chromed after the chop, it not gonna happen.

Just have to use silver paint then :D

I was glad you did it yourself, at least you didn't ask me to do it. and it looks good all I ask is that you think about colour coding it as I think it will look better, but only my opinion

looks good mate, i tried doing it with a TF grill, cept i decided to make it harder for myself as i wanted to have the mesh sitting far more forward, but not right at the front, just inbetween

and i stuffed up the grill

then bought TH grill to do it on

then bought a TJ so now i dont have to worry :P
