I dont think any 3rd gens come with either foldable rear seat or a split fold rear seat. But they do come with a ski port in the middle of the back seat that folds down on some models not sure which ones mines a sports and it does have one handy for long things.Draw back if it is really long you end with it in the front of your car up near your gear stick or if you can angle it a bit on the seat down into the footwell.:D

never really looked in a wagon but could the seats fit a 3rd gen sedan? or has anyone converted their seats to a fold down style????? be interesting if it could be done, make for a far better sounding audio (doof doof) :)

i might be making a total arse of myself here, but i think ive read somewhere that the seats are like that for a reason, something structual for extra body ridgity or something... :doubt: :shifty: (Feel free to flame if wrong lol )

I agree with you on the structural rigidity thing. The 'extra' bit I'm not sure about though....

My parcel shelf gives a little creak sometimes backing out of my smooth driveway and certain bumps somethimes causes a jolt/noise in the left c-pillar. Possibly the seat belt mechanism or it could even be the left rear door panel.

Check your rear window could be that as mine did this every time i reversed out of my driveway (got it replaced under warranty) my front window was also doing the same thing.
A easy way to test it is spray water around the seal and reverse out of your driveway and see if it creaks if it doesnt then I would put money on it being your window seal.Mine would stop creaking every time it rained.

Thanks for the advice and you know what, I can't remember hearing any creaks from the parcel shelf area when I'm driving in the rain or if it's been raining when I back out of the driveway.:) So it makes sense that the water must act like a damper between the window and seal preventing it from happening. My warranty ends this April so I will have to see whether Mitsu will replace the window and tint for me.

The 1st and 2nd gen wagons have a split fold rear seat. The 3rd gen wagon has a 1 piece fold down rear seat. Mitsubishi made a big thing over it being the first local wagon to have 3 point seat belts in all positions. I also remember being told that the rear seat is actually rated to act as a load bulkhead, most fold down seats aren't.

1st gen sedans had the Ski hole in some models I think the Elante and Elite had them.
All 3rd gens got them.

The reason for not having foldable seats is that if you were in a major accident the car would be exposed to 20-100g for a few milliseconds. If you were carrying a 25kg bag of cement in the boot you're going to end up with a 500-2500kg bag of cement resting on the back of the seat for a few milliseconds. A small clip on the backseat isn't going to withstand that.
