Alrighty, I've bought a HU and 6x9's.

I got a Pioneer DEH-375OMP Head Unit

and 2x JBL 6x9 210Watts 3-Way Speakers.

I'm going to need alot of help, there was no way I was going to pay Strathfield $80 to install it, when I have the resources and help online.

I know how to remove the console where the Gear shift is, but not where the air con and everything else is, I think I have to remove the GloveBox? To get access to the Stock Cassette Screws to remove it.

As for the 6x9's I know i'm going to have to cut the carpet, but removing the carpet itself I have no idea, aswell as where the "apparent" speaker leads are already avaliable on the left. If anyone could reference page numbers in the Workshop manual that would be great, or even giving me instructions would be fantastic. I have a qualified sound tech (friend) coming over to help, it's just getting the car apart that i'm going to have to do.

i sent you a PM..

you dont need to remove the glove box or aircon buttons.. Just the centre console (gearstick area) and the plastic surround around the HU itself. Thats a total of 6 screws.

Then theres 4 screws holding the HU down (thats under the plastic surround)

As for cutting the parcel shelf, you dont need to remove it, just hjack away till you can cut out a big enough hole. Im pretty sure theres some crappy chipboard suff under the carpet. but the 6x9s fit perfectly once you get a hole.

Theres no wires on the side, i dont really know about that, never heard about it:) You'll have to run wires to the rear of the car. Its fun doing it the first time, hahahah:badgrin:

enjoy!

Yeah, we've got the console off, HU is hooked onto the side panels, we're stumped with the wires, and yes we've just discovered there are no 6x9 cables running to the back, hopefully the 6x9's I bought have cables.

Edit: BAH the fcuking 6x9's I bought have no cables, I think i'm just going to install the HU connected to the ****ty 4" paper cones then worry about the 6x9's tommorow.

If anyone's local (Western Subs) and knows about audio installs contact me

Ok We don't have cabiling for the 6x9's and it's too late to go get some, so will do tommorow. As for the HU, we're just having trouble figuring out what wire goes with what. I've pm Gerard as to the wire config but if anyone else knows that would be great.

Ok The color wires we have are the following

THE HEAD UNIT
Red (ACC)
Yellow (Power)

The others we know what they are

The CAR WIRES

Red (No idea)
Red/White (No idea)
Black (Ground)
Blue/red (Front Speaker?)
???????? (Front speakers?)
???????? (Front speakers?)
???????? (Front speakers?)

I'm basically just wanting to get the power going for the HU First, then worry about the speakers, I need to know what goes with what, and if I HAVE TO CUT THE WIRES IN THE CAR FROM THE PLASTIC CONNECTER

um, yea there are no rear wires.. so they wont be anywhere on the cars stock loom or anything.

hmmm

Red/Green - Constant Positive
Black - Ground
Blue/Red Accessories

Green/White - Illumintation

Red and Red/White - Front (not sure which)
Other 2 wires dunno the color - Front speakers

I just checked in the car and this is what i could see.. so hope that helps..

To figure out which front speaker is which jus connect one up, the head unit working.. then fade the sound to the left or right.. and see if you have it right..
pretty simple.

Enjoy

Well it's all working great now, sounds semi-decent on the 4"'s but will sound much better once I install the 6x9's tommorow.

Gerard, your help was fantastic and much appreciated. I will be writing up a thread that explains how to install a Head Unit in a TR very soon with pics aswell to help people.

Turns out we were using the right speaker wires for the power lol, we just assumed red was the power/positive. As for getting the speakers right, when you said, red red/white is front speakers, we just tried the speaker wires from the HU with it and found out which was which.

I got to a point where I almost went back to strathfield to pay them to install it, but it worked out well!

Cheers to everyone who put in!

The only pic of the Head Unit Installed is this one. It's taken with my phone so it's dark and the quality is very average, I promise to take a better picture tommorow, will also be taking pics to write up the "How-To Install a Head Unit in TR" thread I will be making.
