Due to my lack of preparation today to install the Head Unit I wanted to be prepared to install the 6x9's tommorow. Here are the things I know so far about installing the 6x9's in a TR

- The carpet needs to be cut above the 6x9 Pre-Cut in the boot.
- The backseat needs to be removed to run the speaker cords to the front? (true or untrue)
- The speaker cords should be run down the side skirt area's.
- The speaker wire should be laid on either side (Right on the right side, Left on the Left) or...
- The speaker wire should all be laid on the one side of the car

If there's anything i've missed, or if anyone can answer my questions it would be appreciated.

run it down the left side of your car man
in future you may want to amp everything up, and, the power wire will go on the right side, so, by putting it on the left you eliminate any hassle of doing it twice.
just so ya know.
speaker cable and RCA's (when you get an amp) go down the left side
power for an amp (when you get one) goes down the right.

take out the bottom seat, i never took the back bit out....cause i just shoved the wires underneath the back bit.

you might get away with putting it in without taking out the front seat, but i'd just do that anyway, doesnt take long, and makes everything more accessable.
I just ran the wire in front of the front seat ad up through the side of the centre console:)
hope that helps :)

Wouldn't it be easier just running through the screw skirts along the side of the car? (The plastic bit on the bottom of doors that you can unscrew?)

yeah thats where you put it.
i was doing a bit more so i took out the front seats aswell, taking out the front seats just gives you alot more room

Now, will I need MDF Spacers for the 6x9's and, will I have to solder the wire to the speakers?

MDF Spacers may not be Necessary.. Hop into the Boot.. See where the Holes are in the shelf.. you may be able to fit the 6x9's in Length ways..

Well i've stanley knifed the majority of the scrappy carpet from underneath and am now at the wood point. One thing though, my brother continualy says to me that if I cut/alter the parcel shelf it is illegal? is that back area where the speakers will sit the parcel shelf (Yes noob). Also anyone know how I can remove the back seat so I can run the wires?

yo carbon.. jus gopt ur PM

no need for spacers, they sit perfectly, just need to cut away at the hole. When your cutting the carpet bit, dont make an actual hole.. just make like an X.. that way you can pop the speaker in and not have to worry about over cutting and having it look ugly.

Yea like tufftr said, run the wires down the side panels, then remove the bottom secion of the seat (there are 2 clips down the bottom, un-hinge thos and lift) then if you squeeze your hand under the rear section there are plenty of holes that will lead you to the boot.

yea..

its illigal oif you cut the metal in the car, not chipboard.

2 clips, under the seat..

:stoopid:
Only illegal if you cut the metal, and i'm pretty sure that the is a hole there in the metal already for the speaker.

Ok here is how I cut it, I just got a stanley knife and cut around the edges, but not really close to the metal because there might be some gaps so i'm going to leave it for now, but if it's not needed later I will give it a cosmetic lift!

See Pics Below!

Also my Head Unit which I installed yesterday...

Edit: By the way Gerard, when you meant cut the carpet in an X Shape did you mean the top part of the carpet or the crappy part below?

Gerard

the carpet part, just so you can fit the speaker magnet in and the support brackets.. but without having to cut perfectly to the edge.. if you get what i mean

Yeah I understand what you mean, look at my diagram, seem right? lol (go go photoshop skills).

What should I use to cut the chipboard? and should the screws be under the carpet but above the chipboard, or over the carpet and the chipboard?

Edit: Also, is it possible to remove the top layer carpet from the chipboard? seems like it's glued on :S

exactly.. a little bigger cross maybe.. but yea

nice drawing lol

you wont be anle to align the screw threw the chipboard so you will have to eat away at that with something, u can just break it with ur fingers. Doesnt matter if you go over the carpet.. just dont let it get caught

Progress Update:

Alrighty,

Both 6x9 holes have been hacked and cut to size. The first one took me 3hours (was being careful), but the second was like 15mins rofl. *sigh* i'm bloody rat **** it's too hot in melbourne atm.

Anyway i'm going to my mates now so we can do all the wiring and install. I hope this dicksmith speaker wire is good enough, it can handle high wattage, the guy who served me said he had an engineering degree and said it should be sufficent for 210watt speakers. Will see how we go. I've also been taking pictures so I can make the how-to's for the and the Head Unit installs.

Next update will be once it's hopefully finished. Cheers for the help!

I would not put it through the door scuff plates in case you put a screw through the wire. Down the centre is safer bet when I did it. Removing both the rear seat cushion and back rest is very easy to do.

wtf mate, when putting the wires down the side, u put it in the tube thing for WIRES  . u unscrew the little plastic thing, then unclip the carpet and feed the wire through the white plastic thing. It is easier to open the white plastic thing then to try feed it though without opening it. if u tried to feed it under the grey plastic thing then i must say WTF!!!?

word of advice, if its a glx the left hand side is easier to work with. Theres no wires here atm so its easy to get to and its not crammed

Well it's finally complete! After 4hours, 5 speaker re-installs and two crosswires it's finally done.

I feel for anyone who has installed 6x9's in the back, it's a major **** trying to get the screws in the holes!

As for the wire, why the centre? more work? There were no wires down the left hand side, it took us 3minutes to get off the bottom back seat, get the wire through, and then through the side skirts, the centre just sounds like more trouble, lol!

I haven't got pics as of yet, and it's too dark now. Tommorow for sure.

Thanks mainly to TUFFTR and Gerard, once again being a great help. Also thanks to everyone else who put in. After hearing the system with the 6x9's in it, I really don't think i'll be needing a sub or an amp, but I will be replacing the stock 4" as the sound quality difference is noticeable.

Anyway if you see a TR pumping Slipknot drive past, it's me rofl.

Edit: My go clean my car, it's full of the fluff crap fabric from the parcel shelf! lol

hehehe slipknot...oh god!

well, you've caught the car audio bug!!!
im telling you man, now that you know the pain is worth it, just cut the crap and save for some splits in the doors.

take it from us, it is WORTH EVERY CUT AND BLISTER.

once you buy some 6" splits (clarion was recommended to me, and i couldnt be happier) the sub and amp will follow shortly.

congrats man!

We Suggested JBL for the simple fact is that they make a Great sounding 6x9..
I installed the same 6x9's Into a Custom Enclosure to fit in a Holden Rodeo Twin Cab and the Owner is Very pleased..

I wont tell you how much I paid for them as you will just plain cry..

Just a Q I have 2 10" JBL 1000W (around 250W RMS) in the boot would the JBL 6x9's sound ok with the subs ?

I always hear people saying that if you have good 6x9's you dont need the subs but having the subs with the 6x9's cant be a bad thing right ?

it'll be fine with the subs and 6x9's, the problem comes when the boots open and your standing around the boot listening, but when your driving and you have the volume up, it wont hurt

[TUFFTR]

yeah, thats the problem i found.
for overall sound, 6x9's work a treat.
but if you want to show your boot off for bass, fade it completly to the front, as the basket of the 6x9 still come into the boot, you are still getting sound, and it sounds pretty bad.

thats all you have to do...:)
