Im using a "unichip" but I beleive the haltech piggy back ones are the best !
talk to mitsiman at PWR for the best advise as I do believe I could have done better than what I have !
the increase was only marginal as I have full exhaust with extractors and pod prior to the unichip !
I gained around 4-6kws accross the reve range !

No, I don't think anyone has tried it.
Any piggy back system is worth getting, so long as you have the mods to support it. I believe the Greddy E-Manage has accelleration enrichment features, which at least the Haltech Interceptor lacks.

yes I tend to agree with cthulhu as thats the sort of info i recieved after putting in the unichip so have a good long look around and ask the appropriate people !

Yes sorry  I DO MEAN MITSIMAN AT RPW ! lol
My unichip cost $1,420 drive in drive out !
The greddy is about the same at $1,470 from memory when I later spoke to dave at RPW !
Also if you go to turbo the unichip will only allow a 15% increass in fuelling where the greeddy has a larger range of fuelling !

also if u go a chip torque chip then they are the only ones that will be able to tune it

If i had time over i would go with greeddy piggyback... chips are chips and only have a cerain amount of range where piggy backs have a larger range and yes you usually wont be able to get it tuned any where except at the installer of the chip !
I was recomended using the unichip from a few people off this site and 4kws for $1,400 is really pittiful and not at all worth 1,400 of my hard earned dollars !

Does anyone know with any of these chips if you can get the right cable and software and a laptop that you can tune the car yourself?
I like the idea of being able to tune the car yourself later to try and get better performance.

Yes, you can tune the Greddy E-Manage yourself, but the cable costs extra. All of the Haltech units come with the serial cable and the software can be downloaded from their website.

Powerchip quoted me $890 for their Gold 98 system - allegedly boosts power from 140kw to 155kw and torque from 255nm to 280nm if I run the car on Optimax.
Anyone know if powerchip are legitimate with their claims?

I would be interested in this powerchip but with plans for extractors, cai bigger fuel pump + turbo charger / sprintex later on *Within 2 - 3 years* I feel the greeddy piggyback system would be a better choice.
God Ive got some saving ta do! lol

powerchips are a dangerous bet.. they ship you a chip with a best-guess map for your car. There is no actual tuning involved so best case, it'll do what you want it to do, worst case the maps will be so wildly off for your car config that you'll destroy your motor.
At least two people from AMC have tried the powerchip. I'm pretty sure both ended up sending it back because a before and after dyno graph showed no change what so ever.
The moral of the story: spend a bit more money on a chip that can be tuned to fit your car

They tune it to the maximum on the dyno when they fit the chip but the info on tuning the chip is what you cant get hold of so I found out the hard way !

That was to be expected. Thats all I got with my Unichip through out the lower to mid rev range, but I did gain a healthy 12kW at the wheels at peak power.
You can't expect anything much more then that from a piggy back (interceptor) unit on a standard motor with a couple breathing modifications. But I agree they do cost a fair bit for the small gain in absolute power, but I don't regret doing it as the drivabillity/reponse of the car is much better. :P

Sorry !
I found out later that my mechanic can not tune the car as the unichip manufacturer wont release the data on the tuning !
I have had no problem with the chip and yes it has delivered across the rev range a power increase but the instalation of pacemaker extractors, high flow steel cat, 2.5" exhaust tube 24" high flow round center muffler and 24" rear high flow mufler gave me the biggest power increase by far then the unichip and then K&N pannel filter !
hope this cleared it up

Honestly, either the Haltech Interceptor for any Naturally aspirated car is perfect. The greddy is also a great option, but really only additional benefit is if you are going turbo. The haltech extra PWM output options are a much better alternative with its duel mapping, NOS control and extra auxiliary functions for 99% of people in a naturally aspirated format.
The system comes with serial cable and software - and is easy to fit and tune. Can't recomend it much better than that,
