View Full Version : International Orders

Hi,
I've noticed that after all the dollar conversions and taxes on buying audio gear from the states - its cheaper to buy there than at any store retailing in oz.

So does anyone here know of any stores that they've tried and have had good experience with - while ordering from there?

Comments/Suggestions welcome

I have a mate who deals with audio wholesalers in the US.
If you guys want ill put his details on here and u can order the stuff through him. The prices are heaps better than Aus.

Problem with buying OS stuff is you have no warranty here in Australia. Has to be sent back overseas.

Also, you have to pay import duties/tax on anything over $300AU..

In the end it doesnt really work out that much cheaper..

thats why u get friendly with some1 over there and get them to buy and send back. u get them to put "Birthday Present" or something similar on the box. cuz gifts like that DIDN'T get hit with tax.

No Tim, you don't want them to write Birthday Present, because Customs can check to see it you have sent money overseas very eaisly, if they find you sent money over there and something comes back with present written on it it you will never recieve the goods, just a nice letter.

Custom may or may not charge you for bringing the goods into the country, there customes charge is $50, but you will no matter what get 10%GST added. I have brought all my photography gear from the States and saved a huge amount. Warranty, ha don't let people tell you if you didn't buy it here you have to send it back, that is crap, International Warranty applies here, otherwise sorry for all those buying stuff from Hong Kong Duty Free just before they get on the plane.. International Warranty must be carried out by companies so you are perfectly safe buying from the States. I have been looking at a couple of Car Audio places over there to get stuff but at this present time they are not as yet set up to ship international, all in good time. I have checked the prices added everything customs could hit me for and would be better off by hundreds of dollars.

Ahh youre incorrect about international warranties bud..

Have a look into the computer market :) They WILL NOT do warranty on components bought overseas.. Im assuming that some companies in the Audio world wont either..

If it is a International Warranty and the company has a office in Australia by LAW they must fix it according to the International Warranty on the goods. If they do not you can and will win a court case against the company, My mate works for NEC and that is what happens with them, they don't tell you they have to because they would rather fix things brought from them in this country, but if the goods come with a International Warranty then they have to by law fix it here.

international warranty must be come with the product (eg a warranty card with "international warraty" printed on it somewhere) in order for you to get warranty in Australia

most computer products dont come with international warranty that is why australian company's will not fix them

and that is why you should not buy grey import computer products as the warranty must be carried out by the person/company you purchased off not the manufacture (unless you trust who you are buying off and they will have to product fixed in due couse)

for eg. if you buy a Sony DVD-RW which was import by someone other than SONY australia and it breaks down under warranty you have to hope in hell trying to get it fix by SONY Australia, with out paying for it.

grey imports are usally easy to pic, the models no. usally vary a little and they are alot cheaper than the Australian product

Ok - found a website - and have the following calculations done:

DEH-P5500MP - $US 189.00 {deck}
KX150.2 - $US 129.88 {amp}
K69 - $US 79.88 {6x9" speakers}
---
$US 398.76

+

$US 150.93 {delivery to Australia}
---
$US 549.69 = {at 0.71} $AUD 774.21
---

+ {possible} GST = $AUD 851.63
--------------------------------------

does the US head units use the same channels/frequecny as we do

cause japanese headunits (radio) will not work here

Killbilly

You might have to change the distance of the "jumps" between frequencies.

Also I'm not sure of what range they use O/S. In australia it's sometihng like 80.5-108 or something like that

i believe the good will be couriered - so i'm assuming its insured that way anyhow.

either way - i've emailed them asking about their policy - and i'll post as soon as i get a reply from them

Ok

Just got an email from them.

They use fedEx for shipping. International Warranty is included and Oz is part of it.
