Alrighty, things that are currently happening...

- First Gear to second gear is quite difficult (and noisy), this only tends to happen when the car is first started, after about 10-15minutes of driving it's smooth.

- When the car is put in third gear, it vibrates quite alot on the gear stick, where as it's smooth and fine on all other gears.

- Reverse tends to pop out of gear quite often
- Need to clutch in serveral times before I can put it in Reverse Gear.

I hope the gearbox isn't on it's way out, I really can't afford to spend $500 getting a replacement installed.

Any idea's guys?

mmmm I'm only guessing but either the clutch or that hydrilic thingy needs looking at.

Popping out of reverse? Not clutch it is the box.

Most self serv wreckers have the 4cyl manual boxes in stock for 150ish

Hmm maybe wrong but I thought reverse was straight cut and no syncro? So it cant pop out from being worn like a helical gear. If your clutch isn't 100% fully disengaging the reverse can be hard to get into as they wont mesh. But thats normally associated with a new clutch.
Don't know about the other probs though, when was the last time you dropped fluid?

Random thoughts of a Magna driver...

3rd and 4th are quiet when changing in and out, but 1st to second. Regardless of how long the car has been running, it just "clunks" everytime, and I'm not rough with it, but I have to be firm sometimes as it tends to resist. Like i said though 3rd, 4th and 5th no noise when changing in and out, it's just 1st to 2nd, and the rough vibrations while in third.

My old TR was the same from 1st to 2nd. I found that if when I changed from 1st to 2nd if I went into neutral first, it never crunched.. not a bad habit to get into to save the crunching noise. It always crunched when shifting straight through on cold When I bought the car with 107,000km on it, and sold it with 192,000 and the gearbox was ok. But that 3rd gear vibration and 2nd gear popping out sounds bad.
You could try putting new oil in, VMX-80 gearbox oil.
