Has anyone experienced this problem in their 96 TE?
Evertime i accelerate it makes this rattling noise i dont know if its coming from the timing tensioner or something else but when i put it in "n" it does not make that rattle/grinding it only does it when push on the gas what could it be?
My timing belt has been recently changed but see the noise was even there before and its still hanging around I`m stuck
Is this a common problem with these models?

surely the mechanic or whoever did the timing belt could have checked it out for u??

sounds like engine pipe deflector. I had the problem on a TE & TF.

Is it a rattle like metallic sound or is it a grumble sort of thing...

coz the grumble under load with low accel and in gear is the tensioner pulley (one of them)
but dont do it if its in N!

Try this one first as I had the exact same thing as chriss on my TF and the mechanic thought it was the belt tentioner but turned out to be a rattle in the deflector !

You also can scoup gravel up if you have a low ride and rattles around same place ! lol
true story.... what do they say... fact stranger than fiction lol happened to me !

Does it rattle more when turning and applying power? If so, CV joint.
Exhaust flexi pipe/joint makes metallic tinny rattle only at certain fixed revs.
Mmm, what else could I think of.

I would think it is that metal grill where the front and rear extractors meet....its a kind of metal mesh....Daalder exhaust told me that these often come loose on Magnas and rattle...could be that!

My car (TE 1996) done the same thing. I took my car to a local Mechanic and he told me that it was a bearing in one of the pulleys. He didnt want to replace it though unless i done the timing belt as it was due to be done.
I didnt beleive him because it didnt sound like a bearing noise so i took it to Ultra Tune Penrith, they told me that it was a common fault with the TE, it turned out being the pulley on the alternator, he replaced the pulley along with a new belt and has completley gone, thats over 12 months ago now. Total cost $89.
