OK I have been planning my hopefully near future system in my head, and I liked the sound of Morel. But I went to Stylyn the other day and the guy there said that they are hard to get and has problems with warrenty or something and the guy who imports them is hard to deal with or something. Anyway, then I read many good things about Rainbow, and I started to think maybe some Profi Vanadium Kickbass would be nice :) but I dont know how much they are (no price on the FHRX website) or where you can get them and listen to them in Melbourne. So I had my mind on them and now I see that FHRX has had a huge slash in prices on Morel, I could now get the Supremo componet set for about the same price as the Elate was. Now Morel is looking mighty attractive again and Marty's got me all confused :D
So what do people think of these two? The Supremo set is only 2 way, would a 3 way Elate be better? how much better would a 3 way Elate be over a 2 way?
I cant think of anymore questions at the moment, but Im sure I will :)
Thanks
Dave

The guys at stylyn are smart, know their **** in audio, but they still are a retail outlet. Do you think they'll sell you something they can't buy? The fact is, they'll sway you to the brands they stock, it's nothign personaly, just business lol I'm nto saying they're bad brands, but because one person tells you something, don't disregard it all together :) Keep your options open and let your ears to the talking ;)

3 way Elate's would be the go for awesome SQ with loads of volume, but it would require a rather alot of custom install to get them in - like as much as the speakers again, maybe more. Great sound though. s_tim_ulate has a heap of Morel gear, he's the one to ask.
(Actually, any 3-way system will cost you about as much as they are worth again to install professionally. Unless you are awesomely good at Car Audio Installs, let the pro's deal with the front set of speakers...)
The 2 ways would be much easier to install, would just need a standard door install with deadening, sealing all the holes, etc.
Rainbow Profi 3-ways are about $10K, Marty runs them in his car. They do have cheaper models, but you'd be better off going for Morels (Bargain basement stuff at the new price - Elate 9's are the pick of the crop at just under $1K, don't forget to add the Supremo Tweets) / Dynaudio System 340/360's ($1.4K-$1.5K) / Focal Utopia Berylliums ($2k-$4.6K) / Hertz Mille 3 ways ($2.6K), the last three which will be more than likley out of your price range. Boston Pro60 at about $1100 is about the ony other choice.
I'd allow $1500-$1800 to install such speakers professionally.
Seriously, If Styln have warranty probems with Morel, don't go with them. If you are 100% certain about spending that sort of money, just give Marty a call. Drive up, leave it for a couple of weeks with him, fly back to pick i up, drive it home (what a lovely 10 hour trip that would be) :D
MOREL - The new bargain SQ speakers...... (ok Tim, you were right. I'll owe you a beer :) )
EDIT: Just saw this on Marty's Site
Rainbow CS265 Reference (6.5" & 1" component set) $3099 (RRP$7999) - New
Would be nice, but that's alot of dosh in anyone's language. Nice saving though and awesomely good speakers.
There is nothing at all wrong with Morel regarding warranty issues. Now I must admit I've never had to send any Morel equipment back but the company that brings Morel in also bring a myriad of other products in and there has never been a warranty issue with any of them. The central problem many shops have with the Morel importer is that they will not warrant stupidity or negligence and you would not believe how many people simply blow stuff up then try and claim it's a manufacturing defect. We get it here all the time too, like a bloke yesterday sent back an Boston G212 he mail ordered from us not long ago and says there is something wrong with it. I pull it out of the box and the voice coil has melted through the cone dust cap, distorted the former and seperated the spider from the former top. Now this is NOT a manufacturing defect. This is either the amplifier clipping because the gains were not set correctly or the ampliifer could not perform what the owner wanted to do.
On the subject of Rainbow speakers, don't assume because they're expensive they're the best. Be very careful with them because they do not suit everybodies tastes. Whilst on the subject of tastes and music, you might also want to have a look at the Diamond Hex s600. :)

Yeah the 3 way Elates maybe with a Supremo tweeter are looking good. Whats the difference between the Supremo and the Supremo Piccolo tweeter? just size?
Would you guys keep the Elate tweeter to use as an ambient one?
Does the Elate 9 just come with 1 9" woofer or 2? I know the 5 and 6 are a pair. Why do people all seem to favour getting the Elate 9 over the 6?
So do people know a place in Melbourne that I can listen to Morel and Rainbow?
Also MitsiMonsta, was that allow $1500 for the install only, or the speakers and install?
Thanks
Dave

$1500 for the INSTALL ONLY!
you have to add the speaker to that figure. Installation costs would include custom fabrication, door preparation and sound deadening, full re-wiring from the battery to your amp (power), HU to amp (RCA signal) and amp to speakers... that sort of thing.
Mind you that price for installation is not a quote, Marty could give you a better idea of what that would cost via PM I'd guess.
He has a couple of nice looking pics of installs of 3-ways on his site that I have posted before, I will see if I can dig them up. Usually a 3-Way set will need the mid-bass in the door (similar to factory location, the mid driver custom mounted into the kick panel (in front of your doors) and the custom fabrication around it. Tweets are ideally placed in the kicks with the mids also.
The Elates come in 5 (5.25"), 6 (6.5") and 9 (8.7") component sets, and each is available in 2-way or 3-way.
The Elate 9's come with (per side) a 9" mid-bass, a 4" mid and a 1" tweet plus crossover. The 9's are a three way either side and come with a total of 6 speakers. 2-Ways $660, 3-Ways $924 (that price is fully sik! Alot of speaker for your money!)
The 9's are favoured as they wil play lower, reducing the need for subs to handle sub-bass. They are more expensive to install however, as there is more work to fit them into the doors.
The 6's would need less work to fit them, but you'd still need to put the mid in the kick panel with the 3-ways. 2-ways are $635, 3-ways $897.
I wouldn't look at the fives since your factory holes will happily take the 6.5's with no fuss.
I think Tim has used his Elate tweet as an ambient, so yes, good idea!
No idea about Melbourne locations for those speakers.

mmm
Im running
PG XMAX 12" Subs in the boot
Elate 9" - Midbass in the doors
cdm 54 midrange in the kicks
Supremo - tweet in the kicks
and MT22 ambients - in the a-pillars
So thats the 3 way Elate system with Supremo.
The 9's are awesome... Will play full range happily. But You'd still want a dedicated sub.
FYI: The Elate 9 is a tight fit but my no means impossible behind stock trims. Saves a crap load on custom installation. (You just need a jigsaw and 12mm mdf to mount it on)
But with a 9" in the door you will need to factor in lots of door prep (read: ESSENTIAL!)
The Supremos... what can I say... Sound amazing. Up there with the best of the best. I'm kinda peeved with the big price drop, as I missed out on the bargains.
Oh well.
You probably wouldnt need ambients, as the supremos in the kicks stage well on their own.
Let me know if you want any more info...
Morel make kick ass gear and I've also known of small issues with suppliers, but you get that with lots of car audio gear. (thats the industry)
Morel Israel is a great company to deal with. Always happy to provide you with any info you want. And most importantly the gear is built very tough, and you are unlikely to have any issues at all.
Peace

looking into 3 way set ups, by far the lowest playing Mids for there size are the Morels. I think the 9inch can play to about 30 or 35Hz, that is awesome considering the focal 11inch 3ways are -3db at i think it is 40Hz.
Heard a supremo and I love them. Im not sure that I like the bass output of the morel elate ( 2way ) so yeah just something else to think of, although I dont think my Boston Splits are the bassiest either but yeah they sound ok. :D
I though Marty was going to say something about me... hey everyone I have been threw 2 boston 12.5lfs and I have blown up my Boston G5!!! Didn't claim manufactures fault though :doubt:

You shoulda taken that HXS300 permanently Charisma...... and given it a mate!
At least the G5 is an easy swap-out of cone and coil... great system.

Thanks for the info guys.
The Elate 9 with Supremo sounds like the plan. Not having to do much custom installation for the 9 starts to make it more attractive.
I might as well keep the elate tweeter, as if I get rid of it Im only saving about $150 out of like $1,300-$1,400. So if it can make the staging a bit better I might as well keep it. But will I need another crossover for it, or will it run off the same crossover as the Supremos? Cause if it needs its own crossover screw that I'll leave it :P
So where did you get yours Tim? Did you get them shipped over from Israel? How much does that cost? Do you know of somewhere in Melbourne I can listen to both these speakers?
Thanks
Dave

I could tell you where to get them and for how much but it's against the forum rules. :)

yeah not many retailers around unfortunately... Marty has a big special on Morel, so check them out. For new gear they are a great price.
You can have a listen to mine at the next meet... Feel free to bring down some music.
