I was driving to my dentist appointment when I saw 2 big puffs of what I thought was smoke I thought I blew a head gasket lucky It happened at an intersection I was stopped at and could pull over to the petrol station that was there I popped the hood to find the top radiator house had come off at first I thought it broke off but no it slipped off cause some DICK had cut off part of the tube which has the raised part on the end to prevent the hose from slipping off :swearing: I'm very lucky it didn't happen while I was on the highway.

Now this is still the original radiator is it worth just getting new tanks and cleaning the cores or should I just buy a new radiator and and where in Geelong or Victoria can I get one cheap they are selling for around $280 on Ebay and thought that was a normal price.

Cheers
Alex.

THis is a common problem, it will not have been cut off more than broken off, the plastic goes brittle.

Get a whole new radiator, if you have auto and can not get auto one don't worry as the TR/S has a trans cooler unlike the cheap and nasty TE's :D

You could get it flushed and cleaned...cost me $120 though..

Nah that won't do much as the actual radiator is broke. Try ringing round a few radiator places and see what they suggest. If they all suggest a new radiator try wreakers for one price. If there's a fair price difference get the wreakers one and flush it. Then it should be fine.

Yes I know of this and it must have been broken prior to me buying the car last year as it's clearly been hacked saw off. Dumb old fart

get the wreakers one and flush it.

I would find that a waste of time and money if it turns out to be also no good.

That's the iffy thing the core may not last long after new tanks and the core is cleaned out but might be my only option if I can't find a new one for less then $280

although u would think that a wrecker one would be a waste of money, take a look around and see if the magnas were written off at the back, front, engine problems etc... This may actually be a good option, dont turn it down till u have taken a look

plastic tank wrecker (not wreaker) = trouble and most likely a broken top hose again shortly. Especially if the bonnet has been open a while as the uv really destroys these
