Chuck it on a dyno and get them to check the speedo calibration. Go to the right place and they can recalibrate it for you too.
If you have a friend with a GPS reciever you should be able to use that in combination with a straight road to get a fairly accurate speed also.

do you have non standard tyres? if the circumference of your wheels is different to the factory specs, the rotational speed is different thus throwing out your speedo. My last car was lowered, had a dodgy patched up suspension and non standard tyre sizes which are the most likely causes for the 10% discrepency on the speedo. I had to drive at 110km/h (on the speedo) to do 100, 55km/h to be on 50 etc.
best bet is use the gps system that cthulhu mentioned (its free if you know someone with one) or dyno it.

mins felt exactly like that for years.
i ALWAYS ALWAYS do the speed limit and everyone keeps passing me.....all the time.....now either they are all nongheads or my speedo is out, when i get some more $$$$$ ill be getting it checked out.
shouldnt cost more then $100 to get it dynoed? should it?
my verada was about 10% out, and thats checked with a gps, so what you said is about right

well mine feels like that but when i compare it to my mums 626, my dads falcon, my speedos fine, everyone just speeds, except when there is a cop car, then they do 10-15km/h under
Its like the annoying people who do 70 in a 60 zone and then when it comes to an 80 zone they sit on 70

Thanks for replying to my thread
UPDATE: took car on morning rush hour run through following speed areas
50-60-80-90-70-80-100-70-60-50
Car seems to be showing correct speed andfeltliked it, Maybe everyone is speeding, but yesterday along an expressway after doing 100 for 5mins slowed down to 80 seemed very slow (i know theres some kind of transition lag after doing a higher speed for a while) felt like 60. getting my car dynoed soon.

grab a stop watch
drive along at 100 km/h
record time
accuracy will be close to +/-1 %
cost u nothing

how'd u guys go with the calibration? i need it done cause mines reading 7% fast and mitsu says cause its within 10% they wont do anything abt it. so my options are:
1. get it calibrated (~100-250)
2. new cluster and hope for the best (~400)
3. frivolous and vexatious claim against a certain mitsu dealer in the SE (lol)
im hopeing a member here has got it done and can reccomend a place. I phoned some places and they all cant say for certain but will hav a look. i need a place thats done it and can do it in a day.

what you have to take into consideration is that as your tyres wear your speedo error changes. if you read over with new tyres your error will decrease with wear, if your speedo reads under it will increase with wear. but this would only be about 1%.

its a 4 week old car i know the speedo will get worse as the tyres wear. im hoping a place can make it read 7% more than what it is now. that way its spot on with new tyres.

give the local cop shop a ring. they should be able to tell you somewhere nearby. or department of transport.
