Just letting you guys know how things are going with the NRMA,

I'm still waiting!!!! Yep they love to take their time but there have been a few developments, The police officer confirmed that he in fact didn't give a statement to the NRMA that he was only interviewed and asked a couple of questions. He also said he never told them we caught a taxi home.

All but one was all he could answer. The NRMA sent a notice of response to me which arrived on the 2nd of March. They stated that I never told them of witnesses, which I did in my statement. I have collected several statements off these witnesses to confirm this.

Also beware of NRMA, they'll makeup crap to make up reasons not to pay. Even the IOS couldn't believe it. They were saying that there were discrepancies in all statements given by myself, Terry and the Police but the IOS said that time discrepancies were only half hour out of wack (mind you the statement was taken 5 weeks after incident).
The NRMA's response had so many conficting statements. First they said in one section, that the police said we caught a taxi home and they believe thats what happened, next they are saying that we should've driven the Magna home instead of the BMW.

There are plenty of reasons which they have tried to provide, but its just making them look stupid in the long run.

Another is they said they interviewed on of the managers over the phone, they stated he didn't know about the car getting stolen, yet he wrote out a statement and signed it stating he did know.

All I can say is I can't wait to take them to court.

Any Insurance company will find excuses not to pay its not just NRMA i constantly read threads and hear things about AAMI not paying up, RACQ, SUNCORP, SHANNONS, JUSTCARS ect ect so which one should we go with if there is bad stories about ALL of them?

I think they all suck but its still safer then not isn't it, i am with NRMA :)

Unfortunately for me there is 7 or so reasons for why they wont pay me. But its not the first time NRMA have done this to my family.

About two months before my car was stolen my sister apparently rode off her car. NRMA sent an assessor out to view the car and confirmed it a write off. NRMA refused to pay, as ok she was being silly but it was under mums name as her as the nominated driver. but NRMA claimed they didn't know, even though my sisters name was listed on the isurance policy. TO cut a long story short dad took a panel beater to view the car and what do you know, it wasn't a write off. None of the chassis was bent, it just needed two panels replaced and a respray. It cost dad $5000 but it was up and running.

I think they like to just refuse claims. But they have refused the wrong one. No matter what it takes I'm going to win. The money from the car isn't an issue, its the principal of being called a theif. I'm a 27 year old female who has worked very hard, never taken short cuts and comes from a good back ground. Dad just sold his multi company and is a well known business man. So what right do they have to bad name people who work this hard. I'm also fighting for the people who didn't have the financial backing to fight, I'm hoping it makes it easier for the people in the future to not be un justily accused.

my family has been with nrma for years, and im going through my first accident (not my fault) right now with them and have had 0 problems.... they've actually changed stuff around to make it more convinient for me. They're covering all costs until they sort it out with the other persons insurance company... so im happy as larry with them.

all mine was pretty straight forward, however yours seems a bit more complicated.

My family was with them for forty years, I've had accidents and haven't had a problem, they even supplied me a car when my car was stolen, this is why its so disappointing. I have completely lost all faith and trust in the NRMA. I understand that a lot of people take them for a ride, well used to. So i can see why they are so cautious but that is no excuse to treat people so badly. I am now with budget insurance and dad has insured all his cars with GIO.

I was called over the phone by one of the claims department personnel a criminal over the phone. He then proceeded to say if I had been responsible enough to drive the car home it wouldn't have been stolen. I was drunk mind you.

Don't get me wrong, the other side of the NRMA are great and doing a good job trying to keep our roads safe, but since Insurance Group Australia took over NRMA insurance its been a shocker for car owners.

Well sounds like there is 2 sides, some people get great service from them and as for you well i guess it all went wrong, i do feel bad for you i think if i put myself in your shoes i couldn't afford to fix the car myself or even fight it.

I wish you the best of luck though!

got hit while in the middle of a round-about, exchanged ID, never notified the cops (the other car was a hire car) got one phone call from the cops to confirm my story. went to AAMI about my claim, spent 20 mins explaining what happened... got 3000 bucks worth of damage fixed, no questions asked and guarentee on parts. and no change on my no claim bonus

This unfortunately wasn't an accident, my car wasn't hit or damaged, it was stolen and burn't out. Recovered the next morning completely burn't out, all that remained of my car was a damaged front bumper and my front number plate. If I was involved in an accident I wouldn't be going through this thorough investigation. They believe I stole my own car and set it alight.
Even though I had my dead nanna's watch which was given to me when she died in the car. other jewellary which was on its way to get fixed the next day, worth $1000 plus about 25 CD's, I went shopping that day and bought clothes, I draw so my portfolio was in there.

This is what I mean, you only have to get one time wrong by 15 mins and your under question for fraud.

While I don't doubt your story, some insurance agencies are notoriously hard on people who have their cars stolen. I know of people who will steal your car for a price and perform something of a jewish stocktake so you can collect your insurance money. Leaving your car in the city and having it stolen and burnt out smacks of this.

You can't blame them for investigating it further as it happens all the time. Hell, I know someone who was tailed and surveilled for a couple of weeks by a private investigator. The worst thing is that they always treat you like the criminal.

If your sincerely in the right, get all your ducks in a row....statements, times, and faults in their arguments. Read your policy CAREFULLY and ensure you are fully covered under the circumstances. Threaten to goto the Insurance Ombudsman with your documentation, and threaten to progress it further through the courts if they so wish. Also through in a red herring for compensation for time, trauma etc.

If this was all arranged, hope u burn in hell :D

Yep I'm already at the IOS, we are in the middle of a war of words. I do agree that I do not blame them for thinking the worst of people either as there is a lot of fraudulent claims, but I do not agree with the way they treat people who have given there whole life to them on paper for them to turn around and shove it back in my face. About a month before my car was stolen I spent a total of $4745 on my magna, this was for tyres, a 100km service, insurance renewal and rego. So my question is why would I spend so much money on a car that is agree valued for only $12,500? I don't owe any money on it, I bought it 5 years ago for $32900.00 and thats not including the on road costs, it was serviced every 5000kms. This car was in excellent condition, if it got scratched i'd buff it. I had no motive for them to think this way. Yeah I was thinking of selling it, I even advertised it once, but it was stolen so the sale fell through. I had no opportunity, I disclosed all my bank details to them, I was around alot of friends at the pub i was drinking at.

I have gathered all statements from everyone I was drinking with that night. so I have 7 good statements and a couple which only confirm that we were there, not giving times. I have a statement from the police officer who confirms it is not being investigated from them and confirming he was wrong on a few things.

I tell you now I would not have benefited from burning out my own car. This whole experience has caused nothing but grief.
