I just want to get a feel for what AMC"Rs Judge Their Car Speaker Choices by?
Speakers, Not Subs...
Do You buy Your Speakers for the looks?? only to realise that no one will see it as they are hidden behind stiock Grills but at least you know they are there.?
Do you buy it From the Massive Power Ratings?
Do You buy it because " Someone told me To"?
Do you do the research, Buy the Best that you can afford?
Do you buy the Brand names Cause they sound important?
Do you buy a Speaker that requires Major Modification to Fit ??
As an Example I will explain my reason First..
Me, I buy a Speaker Based on , Ears, Construction, Budget, Drop in and then Looks..
So If Brand X Released a Speaker that Looked Fantastic, Was Expensive but Sounded Crap and required 4 Hours just to install then I would not buy it
If Brand Y released a Speaker that Sounded Unreal, Was Constructed well and was priced Ok but looked as Dull as Dish water and was a Direct replacement, then I would buy it..
For me looks are not important.. No body sees the Door Speakers in a 3rd Gen Magna.. You dont spend time staring at a Woofer when you drive.. you Hear it and not see it..
So How do you buy Your Speakers ( Not Subs or amps or Head Units but Splits and Co axials)

sound, quality, price, brand then looks.
only time looks matter is with subs in a boot install, but then i just build the enclosure and install to match it :P

I actually like to look at the construction first. Any glue that has been carelessly applied, stickers coming off.... and just the general design and materials of it. That tells you if it is serious or not.
I then like to have a listen. I'm looking for clarity, bass extension, and the ability to reproduce fine detail in the music while banging out a bass beat(s). The speakers must remain composed while being given a thrashing.
Price is a consideration too, as is looks. Doesn't hurt to be pretty, coloured to match the interior or just damned sexy stylish (Hertz Mille, Etons, Boston Pro)......
I am not a brand b*tch, but I do go for certain brands more than others.

I buy speakers if they sound good and if the reviews are good too ( If they last, known problems etc..)
I dont really look at the brand name.

one of the guys at the local Tonkins was running these speakers in his TF, i had a listen, loved it, and got some for myself!
but yes definately, SQ, construction, fitment is always a issue, but as long as it will actually fit even with a lot of custom work, i'll still get it. price... well, i never really planned on spending $700 on a single sub, but it sounded nice, and suited my system, so i had to have it! thank god for interest free!!

Sound Quality - When given a hammering.. they still must maintain clarity.. I LOVE VOCALS!
Build Quality - Have to be a solid speaker.. with refinement and class.. If you get my drift!
After that.. it's mainly what power I have to give.. what power they take.. what price range.. all the usual deal..

i go for awesome quality and price....
GO SONY!!!!!!!!lol lol
no seriously.... i do have sony 6x9's and a 12" sub.................
awesome sound quality is not important for me at this moment... basically quality is dependent on price.. awesome sound quality.. bloody lespensive....
when i chose my speakers... i did them on how they sounded and then price..... didnt care about the brand too much and didnt care how they looked because i knew i'd use the stock grills/covers....

I go by SQ to my ears, what i can afford, what people tell me, and not really looks, but build quality.

I go by reputation and what other people say about brands and certain models, what sounds good to me, and of course what I can afford :)

Its Interesting..
I have met some people who buy a Speaker because of their Color..
Cadence Had Fanta Orange and Deep Purples..
Fusion had the Green
Sony had the Red...
I have met some people who will buy a Speaker because it Matches their Exterior Color of their Car Or they have The Brand as a Home Appliance.

I buy on build quality, then on sound (quality more than volume), then price (but I only look within a set budget anyway. Looks dont even come into it, who cares when they are hidden away. The worse the look, the less likely they are to get pinched!

I know this thread might not necessarily be about ranking your options, but I noticed most of you guys opted for sound quality first when buying speakers :eh:. Can I ask where some of you hear these speakers?... Because if it's in the sound board at your local audio dealer, then you might be misled as to the actual sound quality of the speaker, as it's in the controlled environment of a sound demo board vs. the sound quality within a car's interior  .
I don't have many friends whose ICE ventures outside the realm of pioneer, sony and alpine. So for me, it's purely down to research, construction materials, build quality and price... I just hope to hell that these characteristics, plus a good install, result in good sound quality.

I wouldnt be to obsessed with quality that i have to listen to them in a car b4 i buy :) just spend a bit more dosh, read the specifications and know the brands, easy enough and you can always end up with a good sounding system :)

i always figure out what my budget is, and then go for the highest RMS wattage rating.
lotsa ppl are roped into buying speakers with 2000 0000W PMPO and Max power and so on.
From an electical engineering background, i can tell yas that all that counts are the RMS watts.
Also, brand is important, coz obviously no name brand speakers are likely to big themselves up in terms of performance rating etc.

Im butt lazy and just ask Marty. I tell him how much I have to spend and he knows what I like so he will recommend 1 or 2 brands, I dont even look at them just listen, I know Marty only sells good quality gear. Do just peak at the specs though but they dont tell you much. Brand loyality isn't a big issue, it is just co-incedence that my car runs all Boston speakers and all Audison amps and just lucky that they do look sexy!! :D
