View Full Version : My 380 Verdict

Working with a major car rental place I've had the pleasure of driving a heap of 380's over the past few months. The other day though I finally decided to REALLY drive it. So I took it out to some twisties out Mt Macedon way (living in north-west Melbourne, the whole area is flat as a pancake, very boring roads).

And in a nutshell? I GOTTA GET ME ONE'A THESE!!!:D

Even if you had a bottle of acid you would not have been able to swipe the grin off my face. Just one problem... it was a white base model with steelies.

I enjoyed it so much I even rang MMAL callcentre to give them my feedback and told them "if you guys can make it LOOK as it DRIVES, you've got a winner". At the moment you just have to ask, WHY???:headbange

Last night I got a heartattack almost. I was really thrashing it about somewhere north of the airport when a warning light appeared resembling a hot cuppa coffee. Panicking I pulled over (don't tell me I've over-cooked it already - was I driving THAT hard?) only to realise it was the REST REMINDER!!!

It was happy happy day.:D

PS- I'd be interested to hear you guys' views if you've also driven it like a nutcase!

Well, the 380 is supposed to be a very good handling car. I was behind one that was caning through the twisties and it went pretty well considering the height of those things. It may have had a chance to pull away from me maybe, if it was lowered.

Hey VeradaBoy, I go down to Melbourne 2-3 times a year, and I always rent a car (for about a week or so). I usually get a Falcon or Fairlane from Europcar (I find they're always the cheapest and best service), but this year I want to get a 380. So tell us... which car rental place do you work for, and is it possible to guarantee a 380 when someone books? More importantly, is it possible to hire a VRX or a GT? :D

i think they havent really thawt out the VRX or GT models i mean 1) there too Heavy 2) same power as the base models :( 3) VRX and GT need about 190kw to compete with BF XR6 and VZ SV6....

That spanner is a bastard, i was wondering what it was and if it meant "broken car" so of course i was worried.
Turned to the manual and its a service reminder lol.

When I was a smoker, I wanted to changed the coffee cup to a smoke.

2 hours of solid driving - time for a smoke :)

Yeah I work with Europcar (and no Falcon Freak, that ain't classified  ) I've still got the white one in the driveway, though I gotta return it before my 10am shift today  ... Oh well, back to my beloved '94 KS.

If you want a guarantee I have no problem in recommending Thrifty  90% chance of base 380, 10% chance of 380 LS. Even still you should call them and say "you better make sure it's a 380 or else!" lol

Of course I'd love you to rent with us, but you could end up with anything from TW Magna ES, BA2 Falcon XT, 380 and 380 VRX...and Toyota Avalon (we've got 1 left!). Best thing to do is when you call to book (1300 13 13 90) ask for a "preference" for what you want and that will "increase" your chances without a guarantee.

Damn... I thought you could reserve the type of car you wanted at Europcar. I've always insisted (in the past) on a Falcon, and they've always been quite happy to oblige. Maybe that's because in Sydney, 90% of their large car fleet seems to be Falcons :)

Cars do go by "TYPE", but not "MAKE/MODEL". Yes we have more Falcons in Syndey than anywhere else, it's different every state - although it's still relatively evenly spread.

What normally happens is 24hrs before you're due to pick it up we will ensure that the vehicle you requested (Falcon, Magna etc) is available at the particular branch and put aside - only 24hrs. If there's no Falcon, you get what's there (Magna or 380).

However if at times (especially peak periods) there are NO cars in the large sedan category available at the branch, we do our best to find a Falcon from another branch - and if worse comes to worse we'll upgrade you to something better if it's there.:)
