i didnt really start driving fast in reverse until i got the magna.
the only reason i go fast backwards, is because its easier than turning a car around that has a 12m turning circle
Ive been told that the speedo does work in reverse, the max ive done is 80 reversing in a el falcon wagon :shifty: ive only been to about 60 in the magna, the steering is too light for my liking when in reverse.

Rrright... 80kmph in reverse...
And how do you know if you got anywhere near 60 in a magna if you just admitted you dont know if the speedo works?

I've been following JSB316 in reverse and he was on the rev limiter... around corners and round abouts :noway:
However, he does have some additional driving training ;)
I've been up to around 4k rpm, whatever speed that works out to be. It takes practice, but one you've got the hang of it the hardest part is keeping your body turned around and not leaning on the steering wheel for support. Gotta love that passenger seat as a handle  lol

I don't know about 40km/hr max I guess. It gets scary especially when you hit the brakes, it's a weird feeling. lol
The speedo is electric not cable driven and definately works in reverse. I think that most electric driven speedo's work in reverse anyways.

I havent watched the speedo myself  , but on several occasions i have been told how fast im going by passengers, which means the speedo works.

1. either you are a stuntman and you are required to do it
2. You want to void your insurance
3. You trying to show off
If you really need to do it ask yourself whether is worth it. I think anyone who reverse more than 5kmh needs to seriously think whether they are driving with a license. Dangerous to do it. IMO

uhh....20..30km maybe...i have no idea, coz it feels like u have no control anyway.

I can honestly say, that before this thread, the thought of trying to go fast in reverse has never entered into my head in 6 years of driving
i have only ever done it on a massive dirt road when no-ones around. And it was only because my mates and i were having a competition,
1st of us took the falcon forward down to the end and pulled a 180 and came back,
2nd did the same thing but drifted a bit before and after,
Me, i couldnt think how to top it so i went down in reverse, whipped it round, then pulled up the handbrake so it was a reverse 180 to another 180 and floored it forward. ahh great times, wouldnt do it on a crowded road, or on a narrow road though,
BTW we were trying to destroy this car, wasnt mine, dont know exactly why he wanted to but was fun driving it,
My mate stuffed up the diff later, dont think i have to tell you how lol

In Terminator 2, Arnie nails it in reverse in the hospital carpark then spins the car 180 degrees on the move before driving off. T1000 only managed to grab the trunk.
If he had taken the time to do a 3 point turn, T1000 would have got them all for sure.
So yeah, reversing fast can save lives.

lol best answer so far.
In all seriousness, i've given it abit of a quick boot in reverse (you know when ur being impatient etc.) So maybe 5-10km/h max. Wouldn't continously accelerate in reverse, whats the point? Unless you're trying to get away from a robot sent through time to kill you.
*EDIT*
OH what about that old skool movie, "License to drive" (has heather graham in it when she was 16 :D).
He had to get his mum to the hospital as she was giving birth, and the forward gears died. Reverse time :).
Damn i loved that movie, so funny.

I reckon anyone that hasnt gone over 10k's per hour in reverse hasnt lived. its a fun thing to do, very challenging and take a bit of practise to go real fast, but once you get it, it great fun, and so much easier than 5 point turns in a magna... :bowrofl:
***please note: if you intend on trying this for the first time, go and try it at midnight in a shopping centre car park.

well i just found this thread by clicking on page 55. WEll.....as a p plater i must say on the launceston blockie route on the side street 3 lanes wide and no cars in the middle of the night i did it once to see if it would wobble or not it didnt seem to at all. so the second time i hit limiter and looked at the speedo it was sitting on 70 (maybe a bit less like 68) but thats something that i have now done and can cross it off my list and never do it again. and another thing is getting to 205km'h (i know limiter is at 210) but i didnt want to see what would happen and i had like a 2km of straight left aswell. damn p platers these days
