if ur trans is a bit sluggish it would be a good idea to drain it and repalce the gasket and filter(which is inside) ull notice a big difference. they seem to like being maintained and if u dont they give ya greif. also make sure u use the correct fluid cos if u dont it will start playing up on ya.they only like the correct stuff. to make it easyer to fill just go to a hardware store like bunnings or somthing and by some 2cm diameter clear hose(at least 1 metre)and a funnel. this is what i did for mine when i serviced it, just push the hose onto the funnel and the other end into the trans , that way u dont get ANY mess. saves a lot of swearing:D
ps. ebay sells the service kit(gasket,filter,o-ring) very cheap about 10 bucks. i got mine from auto 1 for 29.95 then noticed they sell em on ebay. ur tp will luv ya for it and is the best 10 bucks spent on her u'll find

cant remember off hand what i used. sorry. but it should say on the side of the bottle, for mistubushi and hyundai . i remember it had TQM-ST on the bottle. sorry not alot of help there. also the reason for mentioning draining it was cause then u have one type of fluid in there. seeing as most only top it up theres probably a few types in there from previous owners who topped it up instead of draining and filling it. Its just that these auto boxes have a reputation of not being strong but i think its more the fact that they are picky things and work well if there treaten good. for example my tp just hit 100 000 klms and my auto feels new, and it so smooth that somtimes u cant feel the change no jokes. but i drained it and changed the filter as soon as it was home and have done that 2 more times , so in summary ive treated it good and have never had a problem with it. any other questions just ask and most here will be able to help out.:D
Remember when you are checking transmission fluid level, you need the car on level ground. With the motor running, run through each gear then back to park and keep the motor running while you check it... also, if the car is cold take it around the block to warm it up.
I cant quite remember off the top of my head the fluid type... as smooth said, it's like castrol tqm-st or somthing like that... other option on fluid is to do to a dealer and buy genuine fluid... it's pretty cheap too. I cant emphasise enough about putting the right fluid in though. first gen auto boxes are fussy... if at all possible, instead of topping it up, change it as smooth said. My fluid got a little bit contaminated and started slipping, flairing, suddering in overdrive, etc etc... after a fluid change, the box was acting like new.
hope this helps,
Bill

I have a list of fluid types here - http://magna.trynsave.net/index.php?title=KM177-6
Do not use the Dextron III, it will cause you grief later down the track if you do.
As for the box, I'd say give it a service and all will be sweet. The box in the TP isnt half bad (not as bad as those in TM and TN with carb)
