i just took my mum to the dentist and when the HU came on the music was playing but has this crackling popping noise coming from the speakers which i hadn't heard before. I ejected the CD and put it back in and it tried to read it for 5 secs and then beeped 3 times and "Eject CD" came up on the HU? I had this problem with it not playing CD's after Strathfield installed my Sub and Amp but i went back and the guy knocked on the side of the dash near the CD player and it started working. It has been working fine since then which was about 4-5 months ago. I tried knocking on the dash near the HU bout wouldn't work this time! I was playing a burnt CD so i tried a normal CD just to see if it didn't want to play burnt ones anymore (:confused: ) but it still wouldn't accept the CD. Does anyone know what the problem could be or is my HU stuffed?
Also it was very HOT in the car...i don't think the heat would be the problem though because the car has been alot hotter in the past 3 months then what it was today. Any help would be great!

sounds like the hu is just ****ing around with you,

if u can, why not try a different hu in your car to check

I can't check with another HU cuz i don't have another one to try it with. I'll go out later when it cools down and try it again and if it still doesn't work i'll pull it out and check the wires and make sure they are all in properly!

If it stuffed up theres obviously something wrong like a loose connection or something. just knocking the side of the dash to get it working is hell dodgy. Take it back and tell them whats happened. they obviously broke something.

If a Guy hit the Side of my Dash to get the Bugger of a Thing to work then I would Slap him one up the Head for Dodgey work..

What Brand of Head unit is it..?

When i first picked up the car they said to me have i had any problems with my HU cuz the CD won't play. I told them it was working fine when i bought it in. The guy said i will have to go home and read the manual and have to reset it or something but i told them i wanted them to reset if for me. But resetting it didn't help...so he took out the HU and fiddles with the wires and that didn't work. So he banged on the dash near it and it started working. He said to me that my HU is on its way out....i said to him but it was fine before i bought it in. He just said to me again that its on it way out! They fu*ked me over with my sub and amp and they probably just said it to see if i wanted to buy a new HU and get them to install it for me. Im never going back there again..... i will goto CAE if i need something installed again!
I spent $900 on the sub and amp and the sound i have doesn't come close to what i paid.....but thats another issue!

Just went out and tried CD player again....1st attempt FAILED. Knocked around near the HU unit a bit and tried again.....SUCCESS! Dunno what the go is there but its accepting the CD now? Very weird!

hu's get insanely hot i got 3rd degree burns from mine while installing it. dnt kno wat cud be prob wid urs tho.

yea when mine gets really hot it just turns itself off till its goes down in temerature then it turns back on, but its only happened to me once, but then again mine is fairly new so yer Hmm...:rant:

If your head unit is hitting Thermal then there is definately something wrong with either it or its installation..

another person who has learnt the perils of buying and getting somethin installed from strathfield. after the f**ked up the install of my electric aerial so much, they sure can go to hell on any upcoming audio purchases! so wat was like $100 customer in their mind, couldve been a $1000+ customer that they have now lost.

i'll join that division, my bro asked for them to install his hu, they did a crap job, i ripped it out and did it properly, got back at them by buying 20 dollar speakers and blowing them and saying they were faulty, got thru a couple sets :badgrin:

I have to admit, I have seen some of their installs and have laughed..
You can buy gear through them but just dont get them to install it..

My friend had a set of Splits installed by them and they Pointed his Tweeter at the Ground
This made his splits sound like Over Priced Dual Cone Speakers.. a Quick Re install by me Lifted the Sound stage and Increased Clarity in no time..

I got screwed over big time.....its a VERY LONG story but i'll just tell u what i wanted and what i ended up with.
Wanted: upgrade 10" Sub to a 12" Sub + Amp to power it.
Ended up with: 12" Sub (Good) and 6 Channel Amp (screwed over)!
All i wanted was a sub and amp installed, thats it! They took my front splits off the deck and my 6x9's off the amp i had them installed on and put them all on a 6 Channel Amp? I didn't ask them to touch any of that. They told me i would have too much interferance or something running 2 amps (i know nothing when it comes to car audio and they probably picked up on that and screwed me over). I still have interfearance from the engine and my bass sounds like crap for $900! Grrrrr..makes me sooo angry everytime i think about my money wasted. 1 day when i get enough money i will redo all my audio gear and get it installed at a different shop!
