hey guys i've just bought a bog std (wont b std for long) tf exec with auto box problems. I have the option to recon it or switch it for a tiptronic. does anyone have any experiences with exchanging a bog std auto (3L) with a tip shifter, is it possible or not. :confused:
1st question: Why would you want to change from a regular auto to a tiptronic auto?

as above, many people have done manual conversions on here just speak to them
Folks like ASylum.

i thought the tiptronic had better ratios and more responsive changes, if this isn't this case i'll b glad to hear that a recon unit will b just as good, or do i have another option. :confused:

yes the tip tronic have better responsive gear and ratio but your loosing power to the ground compared to the manual

sorry about the lack of reply - had a blackout - sounds like i'm wasting my time with tip unit, i'll stick with the recon std unit. Can the gearchange responses be remapped from the ECU, or is the std unit good as it is? This is my first Magna & i've heard a lot about how easy it is modding them. I had a VS Commydore and I now have a VZ wagon (company drive) but i've found the few 3rd gen V6 Magnas (2 tf sports & 1 tj vrx) i've driven are spot on. If i drop in a manual what mods do i have to do. bellhousing? flywheel? usually in most other makes going from auto to manual is a real headf#*k. :doubt:

Yep, this is the first i've heard, modding a Magna is easy?! :bowrofl:
There are better cars to convert an auto to a manual, for the fact that our cars are FWD and accessing the gearbox is a total pain!
As for remapping the ECU for better gear change response, well in your favour, the ECU will actually learn how you drive and change gears according to it! So smart...but no thats not going to change your gear ratios if that was what you were asking.
There is no reason why you can't convert to a tiptronic, all you need:
* New ECU
* Gear shifter
* Wiring
* New instrument panel? (Otherwise you'd have no idea what gear your in)
And if you want better gear ratios:
* 5 speed 'box.
And don't forget it'll cost you to reprogramme the security modules with the new ECU.

thanks guys i get the impression that i'm creating more trouble than its worth. i'll stick with the std box and spend my hard earned on extractors/exhaust and cold intake. :D

i've got my recon std auto back, sh#t i didn't know these boxes were so good. Great response and smooooth shift. Fuel economy dropped since the new box, can't stop planting my boot at the lights or thru the hills. :D
