I'm getting a set of lovells superlows front and rear soon and i need to know if i will need to get new shocks as well. ive gotten a few quotes from some places, one told me i'd need new shocks, one told me my rear shocks would need to be shortened, one told me i didnt need new ones yet. my car is a 3L TH with 65,000km on the clock. so do you think it would be a good idea to get new shocks at the same time as the springs? i would like to get away with using my stock shocks till at least 100,000km but if it's going to cause any damage doing this ill just get new ones.

I'm still using stock shocks. cars done 117000kms, im on king low/super lows, and done about 7000kms on them. having no problems with the standard shocks.

i was in a different boat, on stock suspension i was bouncing allll over the place, thrown to the widnow around corners etc, got the lovells and KYB's in and now the car sticks like s**t to a brick.

65,000 should still be OK to use new springs in, BUT does the ride feel bouncy? do you get thrown around a bit?

if your car still feels tight around corners and over bumps i dont see why you need to get new shocks.

BUt i mean mightaswell kill 2 birds with the 1 stone and get it over and done with now ey

check out Phillcom's prices on shocks and springs, they are the best I have been able to find! Also in if you are in SA he charges a pretty good rate to fit them all for you as well!

No one has really answered his question. I know Ego has stock shocks, or at least I read about him having them ages ago. If a car like his survives with stockers I think yours should too. I wanna know the same thing because I nearly have enough to lower mine on stock shocks...

I did mine about 5 weeks ago.

Kings superlow front / Low rear.

Kept original shocks with 72000 on them and there fine. it may feel better with new shocks but i'll never know cos i didnt do it?

I can happily say though that the car as it is handles 200% better than it did before.

If you do shocks aswell you'll save on labour costs down the track though.

That said my old VP got lowered on stock shocks. with 200000 on the clock ihad the car from 170000 to 250000 and never replaced the shocks while i had it and it was fine

I have super lows on the front and lows to the rear on my 1998 TH

I had them done when the car was at 125,000ks

Im now on 178,000ks with the original shocks !

I was going to give you some advise here about longevity of shocks and how you can test to see if you need new shocks but I thought better of it as its not worth the **** I get from certain people on this site !

I got my old TH sports lowered with superlows and lows and by 10000ks the fronts were leaking oil so I replaced them then. That was 90000ks +10000ks though, so the shocks were due to be replaced then anyway.

yeah i have original shocks and superlow fronts and low rears. Had a suspention check done and a rebound test at pedders, and the suspention works better then with standard springs. I find the fornt is propably a littel underdamped on rebound but the back is fine. I have driven in my mates VRX with Konies and i think mine is actually better ride then his.

Mind you the new springs make the car dam stiff.

I'm on stock suspension and to be honest, it doens't look as high as my dads TF, so i'm not sure how lowering will make much of a difference. Did the TJII get slightly lower springs than say a TF? Or is it all in my head.

i have king super low/low combo on stock shocks and the ride is a bit bouncy but im used to it now. its better to change ur shocks when u do ur springs but if u cant afford it atm ur stock shocks will be fine.

How much are middle of the range aftermarket shocks gonna cost for a TL? I'm keen to go the superlow/low kings option but not sure if it's worth saving for months more to afford shocks, should I stick with regular shocks and replace them at 100k when they will die anyway? (car has done 44k)
