Hey looking at wiring up a head unit into my 96 TE magna. i have a cd player and bought a wiring harness. i know how to do the speakers but the power is a bit confusing:confused: .
i have on the head unit:
Illumination+
ACC B+
BACK-UP B+
AUTO ANT. B+ (i think it the anttena)
GROUND (OBVIOUS)
on the wiring harness is:
12 Volt Battery Constant
illumination/dash light
12Volt Ignition switch
AND BLUE not named
Ground (obvious)
now could someone please tell me which cable goes where and a good place to ground.
any help, tips, do's and don'ts will be appriciated as i have never done it before
will this f*ck up any of the electricals?
if your head unit came with a wiring diagram i might be able to help you, the auto antenna is if your antenna goes up and down via a motor when you turn the car off, or head unit off, constant 12v is for the memory wire (might be the back up wire, just seems like a weird name) There should be a power wire, which is the power supply so that the head units only on when accessories is on or the car is on

i forgot to tell you that it would be a lot easier for me to help u if u use msn as it would be faster.

Disconnect The Battery
']Disconnect The Battery
well u dont have to, just make sure u connect te ground last, and that it doesnt connect at all during the install, but it is easier to install if u just disconnect it.

HU Harness
illumination --> illumination/dash light
ACC --> 12V Ignition switch (so stereo turns on when you switch to accesories)
Back-up --> 12V Battery constant (for memory)
Auto Ant --> Blue
GND --> GND
Blue is the common colour for auto antennas so just leave this unconnected if you dont have one. No harm if you do connect it though, just extra work for nothing!

Blue is antenna.
What do you want the immobiliser for??? Not part of the stereo...

thanks this is perfect but the attena isn't important because i don't have an electric one.
Should i just leave it, or still wire it up?
What is the best ground source??

Just leave it... its not going to do anything either way and saves soldering another joint!
For GND, try to make it as short as possible and find a good existing screw or bolt (should be plenty nearby) to fasten it too. Crimp a ring lug on there for an even better connection to the screw. Sand any paint off the chassis if there is any as paint doesnt conduct!! :D
All the best!
Pete
Best ground source will be attaching it to the body. auto ant = dont bother wiring it up since u havent got 1.

mate the best ground source for a standard head unit is where the stock ground was and leave the antenna out, u might wanna cover the end up or something if your worried about it

I ground the Head unit first, This can stop the Headunit being Fried by unexpected Voltage or accidental earthing...

Uh huh, u believe that,
it doesnt really matter, its just prefrence in my case, some people like disconneting the battery some prefer connectin earth first others last, and others have no idea lol
