Ive decided when i get some time im going to tackle a custom fibreglass rear shelf (if my previous customization is anything to go by this should turn out s**t:P )

now if i have a logo in the middle and the speakers on the side, thats all dandy, but i thought if somehow i could wire in some properly functioning tweeters it would give the rear shelf something else....instead of just to speakers and a logo....get my drift?

has anyone attempted this before?

oh and please keep the stupid utter dumb comments to yourself, sometimes CAA is just useless at the one thing its there for..HELP...

sort of like this..

I'm not sure that it's gonna do much at all as alot of the 6x9's have tweeters in built, so if you put one there you'll get cancellation of the higher frequencies... I think :P

If you are gonna do it, I'd say just buy a cheap set of dummies and leave them there unwired.

check out jaycar catalogue, they have some separate crossovers and tweeters available. i think thats a bloody good idea to run the 6x9 through crossovers with tweeters

They are being goven away as their new one is just finished being printed and bound. It will be out in a couple of weeks from now.

Some nice new listings in it, including the 'almost on sale" Response 1600WRMS monoblock.
Look for it to be $800-$900. There are also further refinements to the range coming, including a much more expensive 2x250WRMS 'Audiophile' quality Class A/B amp that is meant for SQ applications.

I also hear that they are trying to get a load of good CD/MP3/WMA tuners, based on old (last years) designs and made by the same factory that made them under contract. I have birdies whispering to me that it is a JVC design but I have no confirmation on that.

Lets just say I know somebody who works at the printers that prints the catalog. He's sending my copy to me next week!

I think some splits would look and sound better instead of the 6x9's + tweeters. Then again, that's the expensive option. I guess you'll have to high pass and low pass the 6x9's so they aren't fighting against the subs and the tweeters now.
Definitely interesting project, hopefully you'll keep us entertained with pics and progress reports as usual.

Remember you sit at the front and your ears face forwards. The Pinna (also called the auricle) is the visible part of the outer ear. It collects sound and directs it into the outer ear canal. Therefore unless the frequency or volume fluctuations are significant, adding additional tweeters will not present you with much benefit.:(

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/anatomy/ear/earanatomy.GIF

This is the reason many demo and competition cars have their rear speakers turned down or simply don't have them at all. :)

Note; obviously this rule doesn't apply if you're using surround sound.;)

mate i'd say u would have better sound quality for the back if you put the tweeters in the doors, maybe a set of 6" splits in the rear doors, not sure on the space provided to actually fit 6" speakers but, would give better quality sound i would think, then u could have a MASSIVE logo on the parsel shelf :P, if u wanted. Maybe even get a 3 way crossover and set 6"x9" to low, 6" to mid, tweeter to high, might turn out well then,

Just an idea,

Dave :P

FHRX, I do Respect your Advice as it is Very accurate BUT.
Some People Want the Sound From the Back , The Front and the Sides not Just The Front..

Old Hoon Systems were a pair Of 6x9's and a Tape Deck, No Fronts at all.
We are Talking Basic Old School System you threw together from Basic Equipement.

TuffTR has got Such a System, It Basic and Highly effective from any point in the Car, Nice Front Stage, Nice Rear Stage and a Great load of Booty shaking from the Boot..

So, What he wants to do is make the Shelf More Visually appealing and, If It is not going to deteriorate from his " SQ" would like to add an Additional set Ambient Tweeters just to give the Rear Stage more Crisp Detail without Detracting from the Sound of the 6x9's

So, If he was to use a Cross Over and set the Rears up as a Quasi Set of Splits, Can it be done ???
Is it Possible to Attenuate Just the High Notes from the 6x9's Tweeter Just enough to make the Additional ones take over...
Would you not agree that a Seperately Run Properly Crossed Over Driven Tweeter would work better then the one Stuck ontop of the JBL Woofer with nothing but a Small cap to filter out the sound??

Can't you get 6x9 splits? im sure i've seen them before, can't remember what brand they are though.

Yes well in that case ignore my advice.:) I always state that there is no right or wrong way for personal preference. Every so often we get customers who want sound from the rear. That is fine. Everyone is individual.:)

Ah yes, I remember when I first started way back when. Alpine 7929ES tape deck at the front, 3542 two channel amp under the front seat and two Alpine 6x9's in the back. It was the only way to go back then. No one had subs and there was not a CD (or player) in sight! :D:D

Like splits and subs, some of the nicer brands of 6x9s on the market (well, these are the ones most often chosen by people anyway) are:

Oz Audio http://www.ozaudio.com

Boston

Hertz

Vibe

Morel http://www.morel.co.il

Diamond

Yeah you can certainly do that. But why put an additional set there when the 6x9's already have a tweeter built in? If it is purely for looks then by all means do it. :)

Oh yeah, who was the one who said his car was done?

:gtfo:

Great now i have to change the title of that thread!:bowrofl: i meant the MAJORITY was done.....lol......this is just a "small" mod :)

Thanks for the advice FHRX, my amps havent been tuned by a pro yet, just me, so there might be some headroom there, but when i move the majority of my sound towards the front, i just dont like it....i think i may know why, it might be becuase my tweets and woofers arnt pointing to the driver or passenger, there just firing horizontal, so yes that could be a problem, when i fade it rear 40% front 60% i get this whole car fill which i just love. Im sure if i get my ass out to a CAASQ comp soon i'll have a listen to some of the dedicated SQ cars and see how they have done the job so weel (probably better splits im guessing)

although in my mum's yaris when you lean your head back a bit you get this really nice surround sound effect from the speakers at the bottom of the rear doors...but im not doing that to mine.

basically magnat was spot on, i was also going to make them horizontal (not vertical) and angle them towards the driver + passenger a bit more, instead of towards the rear windscreen.

when i get more money/time/no homework ill make some angled pods for the front splits to angle them towards the driver/passenger.

o btw i have seen those fusion splits before but a little to pricey for me!

thanks guys any more ideas keep em coming
