hey guys, got a question for all the 2nd gen owners.
would anyone be interessted in getting their throttle bodies completely polished and cleaned? i have a spare one here with me and soon im going to polish it and completely clean it, and hopefully it may help with acceleration on the 3lt 2nd gens.
so if anyone is interessed in this let me know and ill get stuck into mine!!!

well on the v6 throttle bodies there is **** all to bore out, and by **** all i mean a couple of thou'. by doing that i dont know if its worth all of the work involved in boring them out. once bored, i think a new flap is required.
a new flap may be needed when polishing it out i just dont know until i do it.
i may be able to bore 4cyl throttle bodies tho...

hmm a few thou is not much at all..
if the polishing helps in any way shape or form just PM me or post up how much it would cost, im a bit tight on money atm so dont feel offended if its to much for me:)

lol thats ok mate.
im gonna try borring one out and also polishing another.
if polishing is the option u want the only thing itll cost is the polish and wheel then my time unless u wanna do it urself...
or i could supply you with a 2nd hand one that i can polish and send to you. all these cost can be worked out once ive done one.
the other option is to bore out the body so there are no bumps and humps in it, basically machining it so its completely flat and use the same flap...but i dont know on the benifits of it.... :(

it would be good if you could do one first, then report back on any improvements etc.

Does enlargening the throttle body actually do anything??
cause as far as i know.. you are still restricted by the amount of airflow coming through the filter..
so making the TB bigger does what exactly??? channels in more air? doubt it..
speeds up airflow? again i doubt that..
so i am stuck for anything else...
i mean i can understand a pod or panel filter with less a less restrictive mesh design...
but you would need higher airflow to make a enlarged TB actually do anything..(someone please correct me if i am wrong..)
someone try and please explain and does anyone have a dyno report showing any difference at all?

This mod probably wouldn't give much if any power gain but it'd probably make the car more responsive, something that wouldn't show up on a dyno

howso? more responsive y?

What are you actually going to do to it?
If you're going to bore it out you'll make a small gain but you'll need to make a new brass butterfly as the old one will be too small. Also you have water jackets(I think?) running pretty shallow around the TB, so you dont want to cut them open(I could be wrong about how close they are...they just seem to be close when I look at the openings).
If you're just polishing it...you wont get any gain at all. That'll be just cosmetic.

you're all right.
firstly, a power gain will only occur when a large amount is borred out (3mm+ ish), so by polishing and slightly borring it out will make it more responsive on take off and down low especially in an auto.
i think there are some sort of jackets in there aswell, but this is where im going to have to experiment with some TB's and if they dont work, well ill try the next option.
in theory, when i say im going to bore it out, im actually talking about removing as much of the hump inside of the TB as possible so airflow is not increased but less "disturbed" on the intake of it. im trying to eliminate as much turbulance as possible for a smoother delivery of air.
im open to all suggestions, so plz let me know on your' opinions and stuff because it will help in the development of the MOD!
:D
im interested in a 2.6L TB bored out, or anything to give it more response, just a rather cheap mod as i am planning to put in the 6g72 TT engine and im not sure if im going to keep my car and convert it or sell it and get the v6, btw i dont know if this changes anything but i got a 2.6L carbie so the TB for that bored out would help me. :D

throttlebodies are for efi engines not carby engines
throttlebodies are for efi engines not carby engines
u know that makes sense now, everything i learnt didnt include saying craby engines dont have a TB but i never figured out where it would be and why,
My engine makes a lot more sense now lol

carbies are a bit trickier i think. we have a boat with a 5lt V8 in it with a carby and im lost when it comes to it lol. you could always try Autobarn or somewhere and get a carby upgrade but i think ul have to change a mounting plate and maybe other stuff too...and dont forget that upgrading your carby will result in a upgraded fuel bill......

im just looking for a cheap power upgrade for the 4 cyl carbie as i am planning to get rid of it, but i feel so slow when i have passangers, fat lumps lol , fuel consumption is not an issue as my mums paying for fuel atm :bowrofl:

well if your mum's paying for fuel run it on avgas :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

What're you going to use to bore it out? Dremel? I wouldn't have though that it'd be that hard to make up a new butterfly though. I wouldn't have though that a new butterfly would be that big a problem. Just weld some identical width brass plate onto the original 'fly, then clean up the weld and noone would know. :D

making a new butterfly isnt hard at all, the reason i want to steer clear of it is because there isnt alot to machine out past the butterfly and i dont want to cut into any jackets or watever....
using a dremmel to bore out a TB would take some time! i am goin to make a jig up so the the TB can be mounted completely central in a lathe and be lathed out like that...
setting up a jig is the hard part and will take some time to perfect.
