There is a mob in Queensland - Technophobia - they repair them - costs about $500 or so, with 1 year warrantee.

Other than that - wreckers.

too true :D

Sorry man, i would of sold the ecu to you but i donno the differences between the auto and manual ecu.

perhaps if you go to your mitsu, and say that you can "only" source a Manual TE v6 Manual ECU, ask would that still work?

if it does, then i can offload this heavy piece of hardware  its sitting in my office draw.. dont ask me why? so its out of the dust, out of the sun, in a 16degree temp controlled office :D

awww.. i love my workplace :D

Hang on, isnt the auto controlled by the TCU which is a separate unit? Therefore meaning that all you'd need to do is replace the ECU and plug in the current TCU?

I believe on the te onwards it is all integrated

If you get a ECU from the wreaker you will then need to get your key re programed for the new ECU on memory (ask Rhino - he had BIG head aches going from a auto to manual and changing ECUs)

Speaking of recalls, when are they going to recall the power stearing rack, everyone I know, even my dad with his Verada (which he has now departed with) had leaks from this god damn thing.

is there anyway to change the horn so that it works when the car is off, its gay, its the only car i know that does it?

I'm not sure..I think it could be done. Why would you want it to work when it's off? I love how it doesnt work, saves you accidentally bumping it. And when/if you change the steering wheel...you'll love the fact that it doesnt work when the car is off :D

hmmm. i havent had a power steering leak yet (touch wood!) and this horn thing... i've never tried that... and its too cold outside now, but will know tomorrow morning!!! (is it just certain magna models, or all of them??) and it should be easy fixed...

seeing as the steering wheel button is just a switch, all you need to do is work out which bit is providing the power... (most likely coming from the acc line if it doesn't work with the power off) and then re route it to the 12V permanent supply line (the one that powers the hazards)... easy fixed!!

Apparently one of the guys in Bendigo said there was a soft recall on the TE's when they were bought out. But this information was never released to the public. It was only for the people that bitched about the problems enough to have them rectified. But mitsibishi have denied all allogations cos I rang head office in S.A.

i dont think my p/s is leaking, when u got it it was on the min level of oil, then i topped it up and 6 months later its still the same level

weiirrrrdddd... prolly hasnt been touched for the first 14 yrs tho

hey '96 TE', i sometimes have that problem with mine. I went to Mitsu in Gosford NSW and they quoted me $1200 fitted for a new TCU... I asked if the ECU and TCU are integrated and they said no, telling me that the ECU controls the engine, whereas the TCU only controls the transmission.

06-11-2003, 10:21 PM
So what they are saying is that the tcu is screwed and not the ecu? I was told it was the ecu. some of the guys in this forum thought that the tcu and ecu were intergrated from the te onwards so i dont know.

I meltred and warped a power steering pump, does that count?? :p

The TE's were ****ed autos, I had exactly the same problem, started happening about 40,000 kms and I sold the car at 90,000 kms. I was quoted the same amount for repair so I traded it in and bought my TF, let the dodgy car dealers get a lemon for once :p.

Havent had a problem with the TF auto as yet (Touch wood) and I give her a hell of a thrashing :p

Good luck getting it sorted!
