Ok i see heaps of Commodores and Falcons and otha cars 'dumped' on their arse (as its called). I was wondering how you would do this. I actually had my 1st gen sittin on the driveway once, and bein a steep driveway (goin up) the car looked 'dumped' it was actually quite nice. How would you go about doin it, and wat problems can u expect (police, insurance, mechinacal). Any price ideas or pics would b handy. Thanx guys for any help.
(PS if u think its wanky, tell me, i dont wanna do it, think its cool, then u all laugh at me!)

Just get lowered springs and find a place that will install them. Shouldn't cost more than $350. Will look awesome :).

Can u recommend any springs?? also with 15"s it should look fine, shouldnt it? Most cars i c have 17"s or 18"s on them, although mine do look like 16"....:D
Cheap way.. Goto wreckers and by springs and then cut the coils..
Proper way, get custom made springs to the height you want your car at.
Pro's:
Looks good
Can handle fairly well if you do it right. ie replace the springs and shocks.Cons:
If you do it on the cheap it can be dangerous (cut springs for example)
If you dont replace your shocks, they will eventually leak, bleed or perish alot quicker than normal.
Could be lower than 100mm and cops will defect you.
Could be more than 2/3 travel of standard suspension = defect
Insurance might not like going any lower than 30mm from standard height. The gen 1 magnas look bloody awsome lowered. Ring up a King Springs, Whiteline or Pedders retailer to find out what springs you need.

well to "DUMP" ur car u can chop ur springs, by lowered springs or custom springs or even buy coilovers. but dumping ur car will attracta alot of attention. if u get pulled over and get a check done on ur car (cops will go through ur car in detail) leagally ur car should be high enough to go over a body (incase u hit sumone and they go under ur car) i have been pulled over alot and iv noticed cops have this ball thing that they roll under ur car and if the ball gets stuck ur stuffed. my car is not dumped but the ball only got stuck once. u will ahve to let ur insurancve company know as well and sum companys dont like cars to be to modified.

So how low do u guys reckon? Im not sure of the normal ride hight, ill check soon. Like u said Bain, Ashneel i dont wanna get defected, and id do it professionally, its betta that way. I recently got Monroe GT Gas shocks, will i have to change those too? (hope not!)
Coilovers..................
wtf are you going to get coilovers for a gen 1? :doubt:

The monroe GT gas will be perfect for your new springs, so you wont have to worry about new shockers. I'm pretty sure kings springs would have something.

How can you say that? You dont know how low he is going, you dont know if he bought standard or shortened monroe gt shocks.
He wont need to replace them sure, but dependent on how low he goes will determine how long his new shocks will last.

Should i expect $500 minimum for those? i bet they arent cheap (neva looked mind u). How much would springs cost (just rear)? and brand recommendation?

There normal GT's (99% sure), im not sure how low to go however! Ne ideas? i dont want it so low that if i load the back up, it scrapes! I just want it a lil lower. So wat is a good height? 30mm, 40mm, 50mm lower??

I've always been told that monroe gt gas could take lowered springs, though i didn't know there were different sizes?
I've been told by suspension places (when i was looking into my TR) that if i got monroe GT gas shocks and king lows/superlows, i'd be fine. They didn't mention anything about shortened or standard shocks though.

custom? try 3000+

lol yeah i just read wat u said bout customs if money was no object. I then thought prob $2000, ok next option people......
If you want to know how low to go
Put your car on the flatest driveway/road you can find, measure the lowerest point of the car.
Then measure the gap between the top of your tyre and the middle of your front guard.
If you can, take it down to about 1cm off the front guard :)
P.S The mudflaps will have to come off, or be shaved.
ha, coilovers for a 1st gen...they'd cost more than the entire car's worth! lol

i had a 1st gen wagon. i put whiteline lows on it and it looked slammed. so just get in contact with a whiteline dealer and grab some new springs (pretty sure from memory they only do lows for the 1st gen). and it'll look the goods with the 15's too. i only had 14's with 215's and it looked hell tuff.
do it... now.... u know u want 2 :p
Tim
PS. i'll see if i can find some pics.

does this come under the "lowest point of the car must be 100mm from the ground thing?"
cause mine are basically just sitting above the ground, as i thought it was lowest point of the chassis or something:doubt:
just trying to figure that doozy out:doubt:

pfft.. i've been driving my car for the last 1.5 years with my compressed superlows in and i haven't got a look or a mention by a cop about my ride height ever. i've been pulled over by TMU cops for speeding, been pulled over for "careless driving" and random breath tests and nothing. the lowest point on my car is 65mm.. quite a bit less than the legal 100mm. there are other members out there with cars even lower than mine and others with coilovers set at a very low point.. i don't think they have really been picked on for ride height.

have some more time now. rip off the mudflaps and go buy whitline parts numbers:
front - 72708
rear - 78402
find an AM member (or a couple) that lives near u and put on a carton.
i changed all 4 springs, front swaybar and installed a new rear swaybar (wagons don't come with 1) by myself with no previous knowledge on suspension in a day.
if u want it to handle like u never thought a 1st gen could do the rear swaybar too.
rear sway bar - bmr21
You'll never look back.

So beautiful, lol, although i mite not b able to go THAT low, hmm, seriosuly considering lowering the car to within an inch of the suspensions life :D. Hoe much would a professional lowering job cost (not invlovin springs)?? cause bout 90% of the ppl on this forum have lowered cars. If anybody from the SE suburbs can recommend, that'll b great!
