had kr in for service today - saw a DEMO '05 380 5 sp auto vrx "molten" red with 7800 km's 4sale at $32990 plus ORC's. total price $34339. SOLD to me :D :D :D with a saving of over $8000 on a new vrx. dealer added paint & interior protection & tint for $1,000 (not included in the $34339 contact) so there wasn't stamp duty included
anyway, decided to trade both the tl & kr in on it.
pickup next week.
my first job will be to get it LOWERED me thinks.
bank account is happy, but i am haha

I'm gonna guess that they gave him around $19k for both the Magna VRX and the Verada, so around $15k changeover.

Well done man. The 380 (in VRX/GT form) is a bloody/agressive looking car and I love that Molten colour very hmm Galant Ralliart like.
Very nice choice aswell... good to see that some people are loyal Mitsubishi owners. You have to post some pics when you get it - I really need a new background (im sick of looking at the concept x on my computa for the last 3 months!)
Atleast now you know the v6 commodores will be struggling to keep up with you at and after the lights

thats nice, bit unfortuante the tl vrx is only worth around 16-17k now, anyway i think this is our 1st AMC member who bought a 380!!! (i know there are a few who bought 380 then join this forum)

Yeah, it is disappointing that a TL VRX is only worth $16-17k; because TL's are really good cars... but anyway the good news.... yeah...pops has a nice GT but he only joined the forum once he'd bought it so yeah i think doug tl vrx is da first owner of a previous mitsu to upgrade to the 380 (and the VRX variant at that) and good on him; hopefully more of us (including me) to follow suit in future.

Congrats doug!
Look forward to seeing the new wheels.
Does the 380 vrx drive alot different to the TL? quicker?
You really love the dark coloured reds dont you? :P
Congrats again, cant wait to see what you do to it, your cars always look so neat and well kept :D.

well you definatley chose (IMO) the best colour in the 380 range.. looks awesome in the sun..
anyway, im sure you will be happy with it once you get it.. the only bad thing is, i suppose, is not being able to have it quick enough..
me hates waiting for a new car to arrive.. so impatient..

from the short drive i had of it, just a fraction better handling then the TL - 380 only has the factory vrx suspension ie - not lowered.
but this will be the 1st mod i plan to do shortly (prob in 1 or 2 months with luck).
cannot say why, but i have always like the darker reds colours - i only wish sienna red or the newer orange colour from the tw's where still available.

Apparently the red colour you got as well is the only colour available in the 380 which has 2 clear coats on it for extra shine, so that's a bonus.

There's no financial sense to buy any car brand new, especially a Mitsubishi which is just dieing to depreciate. But..... if people didn't buy new cars, neither of us would be driving our cars lol. So thanks for taking one for the team Doug :bowrofl: jk I'll buy it off you for $12k in 4 years time?
Nah in all seriousness the 380 VRX is a really good car to drive. I can see why he bought it. Only downside perhaps (apart from depreciation) is that the series 2 will likely be a lot better. How much better? who knows....
Congrats dude...
if it looks anything like the black one i saw at the motorshow....

Well, I'd prefer the Limited Edition manual 380's going for $29 990, but what I said was more to do with the fact I thought the massive loss you had on your TL would dissuade you from buying new again?
Anyways, not trying to take anything away from your purchase, its a good thing for MMAL that people are buying these 380's :)

I agree. Just seeing a 380GT for like just over $40k makes me wish I owned it. If your still up for robbing that bank thing let me know.... yeah we'll plan it together :bowrofl: ; think of the possiblities, the 380 at your house in your driveway as your everyday car without paying a cent for it (infact I'd pay full RRP for it if I didn't earn the money as Mitsu need the money!)

But he is not buying new - its an ex demo.
The VRX will hold price much better than the limited edition.
Look at dougs TL VRX vs my TL ES
I have been royaly owned (well work has)
Well done doug, 1 more year on the TL for me until I get the upgrade :)

My dads work must have a similar set up to yours Ash. had his TJ Sports for 2 years, has had his TW VRX for a year with another year to go, and then chooses another car. 90% sure he will choose a 380 VRX.
It is in my interests cos he gets free unlimited petrol, all family members are insured with it, and it isnt restricted to only work purposes! For example my brother got a speeding ticket in NSW while driving with his gf to Byron, and work didnt bat an eyelid. Crazy, but we'll take it :P

hey doug, be honest how much better is it then a magna to drive?
I have spoken to people who have driven a government one and they said that it drives completely different then a Magna and apparently the 380 feels like an Audi to drive with some extra power (Audi's are FWD too).
Lastly, what fuel consumption figure you being getting? My mate was getting 10.9l/100km around town (no country driving at all - thus, government car) and I thought that was pretty good. His one is a base model though, but still a very nice (and very well equipped) car.

1: handling - compared to my old tl with lowered suspension, the 380 handles better (less body roll, smoother ride etc) with the stock suspension ie NOT lowered yet.
2: engine - compared to the 3.5 lt, the 3.8 has better driveability, unlike the 3.5, 3.8 doesn't have the lumpy idle that is found in most magnas.
also at 100 km, engine is just turning over at 1800 rpms
3: economy - on the trip down ocean rd on monday, with a/c on most of the time, achieved an average of 9.2lt per 100km and this was with some very spirited driving.
10.9lt around town sounds about right to me.
my only dissapointment so far is the speedo reading. at 100km, its actually only 95km according to my sat nav (point 2- the 100km was from the gps - not speedo before anyone asks) where abouts with the tl, difference was 1km.
as for photos, because my computer is 7 years old, i'm not bothering getting software to upload photos till i decide to update computer, and besides i don't own a digital camera lol.
