hey everyone, i just noticed the tp's steering is making a small noise and was wondering if anyone else has had to fix/replace/repair there steering coloum. now the noise is in the plastic behind the steering wheel, i was turning very tight and as i turn the wheel a few times in any one direction theres a point weres this noise happens for a second , almost like metal on metal. just wanted to know if any of u have had to replace the bearings.
sounds like as the wheel turns there might be a metal pin or something that has to pass around or though something and it might be out of alinment a tad so this noise occurs when i turn. now the car's an exce and has 100 000klms on it with no damgae. so in summarry i wanted any ideas before i go pulling it apart. cheers everyone:D

is it kinda like a clicking noise when u hard lock it... to the right it normally is if i remember correctly?
if it is this noise i will double check with my sister on what it was, she had the same prob with her old TP.

nope more of a scraping noise, like something has to pass through something. happens left or right makes no diff. and the car dosen't have to move. can have it running and go lock to lock and makes the sound as soon as u start turning just at one spot

got it apart and its a bit sticky in there , so ill clean it all and put it back together and see if that changes anything cos it all looks to be in order.
oh yea i did find a broken part looks to be part of the indicators. but lucky i have a tp wagon for parts dont need the wreckers for this one.
heres the part http://img105.imageshack.us/my.php?image=indicatorpart2mk.jpg

aaaarhhha got it , no more noise. yay for me. just gave everything a really good clean cos it was so sticky from the old grease. then i whacked on sum high temp bearing grease on the moving parts and pressto no sound , very smooth . has made a huge diff in the feel would recomend that everyone with a first gen do this. dosent take long and all u need is a phillips head screwdriver medium size,1 17mm socket, somthing to clean it with (windex work great cos it evapourates) a bit of grease and a bit of time.
