Has anyone had any issues with the CV boots rubbing and making a squealing noise when driving?

I've tried a few times and attacked them with silicon spray, and that fixes it for a few days, but then straight back to how they were :(

The next option is to rub some grease on them but I'm thinking that's gonna attract all the crap under the sun and rocks and crap will end up wearing through them....

Anyone got any ideas? :)

CV are more of a "cluck cluck".... if its squealing.. then it may be the wheel bearings......... might want to check them out as well,...

It's definately the boots rubbing against itself. I've circled the bits where it's rubbing in the photo.

Vaseline's a good idea, but wouldn't that do the same thing as grease and attract all the crap that gets flicked up?

Wurth make a product called rubber care, it's non greasy and designed for window rubbers etc. It should be able to help you with you're squealing problem. It's about $15 a can.Only problem is that it's sold to trade only so you might have to get it through a workshop. Or PM me and ill get you a can from work.

yes thats intresting that cv boot isnt black

wonder what its made out of or is it just the flash from the camera giving it that colour

at least the boot isnt busted looks in good condition
well you need to put something on it to reduce the surface friction otherwise the boot will rub thin ?? difficult question

Nah the boot is black and made of rubber. It looks yellow cos of the light from the torch :P

Intersting... I'll look into this one.

Is this something that would wear off though? I would have thought silicon spray would stay for a bit more than a couple of days too...

is there any chance replacing the boot would help,

what about a boot with a small flex in it, you know smaller bumps on it, stretches more to fit, i dont know if they make different boots for the same model car,

and i dont see how it would rub to tell the truth, shouldnt they turn at the same rate, if they are turning at all, besides that it would rather come in contact with another bump in the boot rather then rub against, as they would be moving at the same rate etc....

just a thought
