Hey guys,
I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to feed my power cable through the firewall. After that it's a sinch, but this has me stumped. Ok the car is new, so i dont want to be drilling holes or cuttin **** open i shouldn't be, so was just wondering where the best place is. I've been given advice from many members, but have failed to see wherebouts they were talking about. I can see a rubber plug at the top on the passenger side, but once again cant confirm if this is it.
Any pictures would help heaps!
I have a 2002 TJ series II.

just look for one of the passenger side blanking grommets in the fire wall, it doesnt matter to much which one it is, just find it then locate it on th "in car" side and then determine how easy/hard it will be for you, plus u doubt you would be able to drill the fire wall, its very hard strong metal, plus it would be kinda awkward :)

thats the one dude. i know slickth has done his through that hole and im plannin on doin mine that way aswell. also theres a hole at near the bottom of the firewall near the centre of the engine bay. i htink its beside the steering. cant confirm that one but thats wat Bain told me.

i got a coat hanger and used it as a snake (a sparky term 4 a cable feeder) to feed the cable through my engine bay, through my front fender into the pasenger kicker panel, under the kicker panels to the rear seat then under the rear seat and into the boot!

I have circled the rubber i'm talking about in one of the pics, and then uploaded a 2nd of my engine bay where someone can roughly circle where i should look otherwise.
Can anyone clarify that the one i have circled is in fact the rubber bit i need to cut through?
From looking inside, this is where all the cables go from my climate control knobs.

personaly i wouldnt do it that way it is quite difficult to retrieve the cable once its inside the dash plus going through that rubber thing is risky! just do what i did take the cable through the front fender from the battery box then into the front passenger kicker through the bung where the cables enter for the power windows and central locking then under the skirting to under the back seat then into the boot!

From the 3rd gen FAQ (http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Interior#How_do_I_get_my_cabling_through_the_firew all.3F):

A BETTER WAY AND MUCH EASIER WAY--

in the drivers footwell looking towards the centre of the firewall, (level with the auto shifter) pull down the carpet.

You'll see a grommet with a tube already going through it.

Grab a screwdriver, poke a hole through, make sure you dont go too close to the metal as a cut here will result in a short circuit. Push the wire through from the inside.

I've fit 0 gauge through here easily.

This is hard to see from the engine bay as the grommet comes out just below the firewall deadening material.

That's what I used, and it was really easy. The area you're thinking of is definitely not a good idea. I found out the hard way.

llol i found a better way on mine

behind the strut tower beside the abs pump theres a not used rubber grommet go through it

un do the plastic cover under the guard on top of the tyre

theres a nother grommet that comes through to the inside of the car
you will need to un do the glove box to see it and the kick pannel

Oh man i'm so confused, i'll have a look for that one in the 3rd gen FAQ, and i'll also try lifting up the carpet on the inside and see if i can see it there, probably turn out to be the same one :P.
I'll try it tomorrow.

This is my first post, as i only got my magna last week, im trying to install the power cable to my amp, but i cant seem to push the lead through the gromit. the spare gromit thing in the picture above has a pipe going through mine, i guess it might be the passenger air bag or something. anyone have an easier way.

Mine also had a pipe going through it. there's heaps of room if you make a nice long vertical split to the side of it.
This was by far the easier way mate.

i drilled a hole a little bigger than the 0guage cable and put a gromet on it ... fits in tight and is waterproof ... easy peasy and looks good

it goes through the firewall on the drivers side and runs to the boot of the car

I made my own hole, drill just above the carpet passenger side, a rubber grommet or plastic nails will seal it up for you. Nothing wrong with this way and you can fit as many as you want in.

red one is amp power, black one is computer power. Made a hole for both, looks clean and is sealed.

0ga fits easily through the grommet in the centre of the firewall down the bottom. Just below the black firewall cover material stuff.

Looking from the inside (for an auto) if you follow the tube from ur auto shifter ul notice a big oval / rectangular grommet, slice a small hole (to keep it water tight) and push the wire through from the inside

pull off your front passenger tire, remove the plastic inner guard, run it through the massive grommet on the fender next to the battery into the grommet that goes into the footwell on the passenger side of the car. you cannot see it and the cops can't say you have drilled a whole.

i had the same problem with when i wired my amp, looked for ages and was told to put it near the steering column, but i didnt wanna do that for saftey reasons (getting caught) and i didnt wanna drill holes. what i found was in the passenger side, if you remove the top half of carpet (held in with twist screws) and mount under glove box (plastic cover held in with clips, just pull and she will come) you can see a white pipe looking thing facing down, unscrew that and you will get to a rubber tubing, make a ever so small cut and feed it through that. when you put it back together just run your amp lead down under the white pipe.

i used a grommet which seemed to be directly opposite the glovebox. poked a hole with a screwdriver, threaded wire in and kept feeding and feeding it through untill it appeared in the passenger footwell. from there i sent it back up behind the dash and through the center console

I have a 01 TJ advance with airbags, which way would be best to avoid the airbags (if its possible) 'accidentally' deploying? mind you, my power cable is like 8mm thick... I just want this to be done the easier way.. also, as the back seats dont fold down, how do I get the wiring thru to the boot? I have done all this to a 91 model before as it was easy, but I have only had the car for a few months and dont want to break anything... help?
