ok...when i took the plenium off the other day, i noticed there was ALOT of oil inside the plenium, and inside the bit that connects to the plenium...where the air goes into the engine..anyway it was FILTY i reckon at least a 0.50 to 1.00mm layer of oil was inside it all
is it possible to take everything off from the plenium, take it out and blast the s**t out of it with TB cleaner?
so i have a nice clean plenium for air to travel etc?
would i notice some gains from this?
any help MUCH apprecited. i have a week left of holidays so i dont mind getting down and dirty for a day.
"_x_FiReStoRm_X_" can confirm this!
Cheers peoples, Paul

Hi mate,
I had the same thing on my car, the reason for this is the standard Mitsu gasket is sealed to outside air, but not between adjacent runners. So an oily film builds up.
I attached some mini catch cans (fuel filters) to my pvc line this helped heaps. It's amazing how much of the oil vapor they catch.

yeah im gonna do that soon, i cleaned out my PCV Valve aswell, so did you connect up a fuel filter in line with the PCV hose?
a mate of mine has one end of the pipe going into a PVC canister, and the other end into the PCV valve, has collected quite a bit of oil so far, KB has just informed me i should start the car, open the throttle and just shoot TB cleaner into the TB.
i will give this a go, but if anyone else has suggestions please go ahead, thanks temagna:)

I've got 1 just before the PCV valve on the front bank and 1 up near the throttle body. I replace the front 1 once a month, only costs $2 for the filter. :D

There talking about the hose that goes from the rocker cover to the intake plenum (the big rectangular aluminiun box connected to the air intake)
The PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation, its a one way valve that allows the oil vapours from the crankcase to be drawn into the intake to be burnt rather than ventilated to the atmosphere where apparenly they make a hole in the greenhouse layer or some greenie ****.:D
Damn fine idea, I making one of them as soon as find bulk fuel filters.:D

This by itself prolly won't fix your idle. You should try cleaning your throttle body. What this mod'll do will reduce the amout of oil that is being passed into the plenum chamber, which makes the TB stick.

if you have ****ty valve seals
those fuel filters will clog up real fast
remember they were made to filter fuel not oil
if your going to use those filters anyway
you might try and attach 2 per pcv valve IE: using a y connector
my 2 cents worth

:stoopid:
Or to use a catch can then the fuel filter

hmm, so fuel filter catch can, fuel filter
or the y piece
eh for $1.50 each im gonna buy 10 if em maybe a few y pieces and try a few of em

Have you checked your 02 sensor? I had the same problem as you, replaced the 02 sensor and its all good again. Just a thought.

to the people with a 2.6L 4cyl. ive been using the fuel filter inline on my engine for about a year now and i gotta say it stops a crap load of oil going into the throttlebody/plenum. got a pic for you.

Nice and clean engine bay
i think Jo_king/LoMgna posted this about 6 months ago, coz thats about how long i've had mine in. only needed to change it once since i put it in.

The 02 sensor is located in the exhaust before the CAT. I had quotes from $320 to $140. Expensive little buggers....

Ahh yes, thats where i used to have mine, inline on the breather, but it resulted in an unusually rough idle, (due to the restriction in airflow i guess) so it didn't stay on for long.
True it does stop alot of crap getting into the TB, but you should really have one of those on your PCV system. More oily vapour is passed into the intake through the PCV than the breather tube.
And Paul, yes you can take it off, its easy as pie, but just think how much crap is also in the lower half of the intake manifold too; so thats probably another thing to consider cleaning. Cleaning the whole intake, you'd notice a decent gain in throttle response.

.
it did something similar to me in that the idle was a little rougher but when i put the CAI on this seemed to negate the rough idle and its fine now. dont ask me why it changed tho as i have nfi.
the one i have on now has been on for about 2 months or so, ill take a pic tomorrow to show how much crap its collected for people to see. which reminds me i probly should be changing it some time soon.

well i got some fuel filters today and some suitable hose (all that would fit is transmission oil cooler hose so im useing that) and slapped it in.
1 fuel filter where the PCV is, and 1 fuel filter where the intake is, dunno whats its called

this is what happens when you spray TB cleaner on the plenium
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/wargswer003.jpg
now, i took the car for a decent drive today, and as you all know i fitted barrys fuel rail kit, new spark plugs, leads, and cleaned the TB and PCV, i dont know what influenced it the most but the car is running awesome now, no tacky pdeal at all, really responsive. so i cant say if it is barrys fuel rail kit or not but yeah the car is running smooth as a babys bum now and i love it:)

I think the greatest influence on the smooth running would have been the unblocked PCV mate, that thing was sick. lol

Well i just took the whole plenium off yesterday and gave it a good clean!
slyts6 was a real big help (thanks man) in showing me to just disconnect the plugs to the TB - not to actualy remove them.
20 minutes later it was off and inside was yuck, a nice long spray with TB cleaner and it was and smooth inside, used a whole can! also used a bottle brush to scrub it inside, man there qiute alot of black **** that came out!
problem is, is i stupidly rest the top of the plenium in the dirty TB cleaner, so some paint started to peel, and not wanting to have a crappy looking two tone plenium, i just sprayed the rest of it so it all peeled off.....not the smartest thing to do!
Doing this, and bypassing the TB coolant so far has resulted in ALOT quicker response, i noticed it straight away, so good thing to fill in time with!
next thing to do is the intake manifold - but this will be hard.
