Hi, i have a TJ Executive, 1998, manual. When the engine is warm, and it is out of gear, for some reason, it takes forever for the rev's to drop from 2,000 to 1,000 (From 2,000 to 3,000 it drops fairly well, same with anything above that). Is this a normal thing for these types of cars, or could there be a problem with it?

Thanks in advance

Pazza

Sure its not a TH. TJ's came out in 2000.
Sounds like your Idle Speed Controller, have you recently taken it off or anything because that came sometimes reset them.
$60 at Mitsubishi to get it tuned again (if that is the problem)

It takes a long while for mine to drop from 1200ish down to 700 (idle) when mine is warm which seems rather normal with all cars, but 2000 does seem too quick. Could it have something to do with a thermostat telling the ecu the car is still cold and making it idle faster to try and "warm it up"?

it does sound like this...but...1998 would be TF. TH 2/1999

Yeah the only model a 1998 Magna can be is a TF. TH wasn't til 1999, and TJ was 2000.

has anyone notcied on highway speeds, when u let go of the gas but don't break ie if you're going downhill, or slowing to 80 or something, the revs stay the same and don't drop untill you hit around 80 ish, is that the job of the torque converter?

and no cruise isn't on

Is your air con on?

mine is like that from about 1800 down to 1000 when the ac is on, its a bit faster when the ac is off, but not hugely.

nah, my ac isn't on. My bro and i were talking about how long it took, could it be that it has a heavier flywheel than what im used to? It jus seems weird that it seems to drop fairly well, and then it just seems to slow fairly quickly from 2,000 to 1,000 RPM

When I stop and the motor is hot the revs usually drop rapidly to about 400 (or about the 2-3rd notch from the bottom) and causes the engine to shudder...like its about to stall. Its only for a second and returns to 700-800 pretty quickly.

Think I need to get it checked out.

You may want to update your profile in regards to your current ride as members here can help you better if you know the model of your car properly.

there is no such thing as a 98TJ unless you mod it and even then is not a TJ. Please update it to get better understanding from other member about your car. If in doubt, open your bonnet and check the part number.

Your revs are a bit high I recon even for any model. Go for a check with dealer or proper mech to get it back to norm.
