Currently running splits and 1 12" sub with some decent power, im about to SD the whole rear of the car(damn rattles), and install 3 screens and a DVD player. Due to this I want to add some decent rear fill, I have Focal 165V2 Polyglass in the front now and plan on using these in the rear and upgrading the front to a set of K2PS splits.
Problem being 3rd gen its fitted with 6x9's, should a decent shop be able to or could I (if not too hard) mount the 6.5" woofers in the 6x9 holes somehow?
Anyone done this?
Any ideas/help appreciated.

The 6x9's are pretty much moulded to the chasis, the only way i could see you doing it is getting a 6x9 to 6" raiser, or drilling new holes, but theres no guarrentee it'll sit right in the existing hole.

I worked in a car audio shop for some time and I've found that installing splits in the rear isnt that great.
See you want a decent sound all the way around. You need those clear vocals up front, the bass from the sub and the rear.. well I personaly went for two way 6x9" so that they didnt drown out the vocals / trebble from the front.
If you do it it would still sound awesome dude.

this is very similar to how i mounted my 5" coaxials in the rear (i wouldn't bother with splits)

unfortunately i used 18mm MDF (12mm would be fine) and the tweeters *just* hit the speaker grills.
all you have to do is trace around the standard 6x9 (to get the screw holes right) and then cut the hole you need for the speaker to mount. i recessed mine to help the tweeter clear the grill, but didn't go far enough.

You could go splits in the rear doors and 6x9s in the shelf like I did.

Visit a wrecker that has some 2nd Gen Verada's in stock. The rear speakers in them use 6x9 to 6.5" adapter plates all ready to screw in.

not a real big fan of screwing speakers directly into metal though, MDF all the way :D
although with enough sound deadening, they could be worthwhile (also much easier than making them yourself!)

Asylum, how much did you pay for those coax's? Think they would suit my setup too.
