do you work? if so i'd put it off a few weeks and get a far superior system....
$425 you get the pioneer 5550 which is alot better then the 3550 heaps more features
front speakers i'd be looking at the entry focal splits or mbquatz discus series should be aroun $300-$350 a pair will sound way better then any 3 way coaxils...
for subs if you willing to pay $400 each you can get a pair of earthquakes which would be absolutely awesome... of if thats getting abit too much i'd be looking at crossfire and for an amp stay away from sony 1600w thats what it can peak at but running constant it would be more like 400 if lucky... shocking stuff.... roughly the same price you can get a earthquake amp or a crossfire which is 1000w continous and they underrate their amps by up to 40% so you could be anywhere up to 1400w continous i think they retail now for around $850 is the cheapest...

u live in perth? if so then i would advise you to go to westside car audio on cannington highway near carasel shopping centre as they supply earthquaek, mbquartz and focal.... and very helpful and well priced....

Look into a good set of splits. I think there are nice Hertz ones you can get instead and they'll be around that price range.

There are the Jaycar ones I have Kevlar 6.5" Splits for about 170 I think. But I'd throw in the extra 100 and get something like Hertz ones.

hey dude , i will agree with "berrjona" about the head unit 5550 is far more better and superior than 3550, with heaps of extra featurs.

but if your price range is under $400 also look for

Sony CDMP50 === MP3 ($379)got 2 x RCA Out + Remote (also looks much better than 3550 and is also 50 x 4 / 52 x 4)

Clarion zx435 ==== MP3 ($359) same specs as sony as well and also looks much better than 3550

3550 ----> MP3 $350 ---> one RCa out .

also chekc AutoBarn as they are havign sale in Victoria for this week so may be they might have sale in Adelaide as well.

the Pioneer 3550MP can be had for $299 these days....considering you're in Adelaide, check out Tonkin's and see what they have to offer.

Dude for $2000 you also want a balanced system. No good having 2 way co axials at the front and 4x 15's in the boot for everyday driving. Umm for $2000 get something like a:
Pioneer 5550MP or Alpine CDM-7874EB or the new one that Retails at $569 with 3 rca's ( 4 volt ) Mp3 50x4 media xpander etc etc.

6inch splits like boston FS-60's or the new Hertz ones.

Audison SRx3 or JL 450/4 ( depending on budget )

JL 12w0 x 2 or a single JL12w3v2.

kenwoods are not dodgy, i have 6X9 which cost me 150 like two years ago and they're still going strong, i remember one person asking me if i had a sub but it was just the speakers pumping out the bass + an amp of course

So far that budjet is $1430,

I would forget the amp. waste of money.

For a HU you want RCA out's if you want to run amps, go more expensive on the HU and get RCA out. Forget the 3 way speakers for the front, there are a lot of nice splits that will leave the 3 ways for dead in Sound Quality. Entry level focals, Eclipse, etc just to name a couple, I guess with both of those you would be up arount the 900 mark (HU and Splits) so you still have $500. Forget the sub for now, I would go Eclipse 6x9 in the back shelf they are a round the $300 mark and produce a lot of bass without needing even a amp, obviously a amp will be better but if you want to run off the HU they work well that leaves $200 to put towards a amp or sub at a later date or even get a better HU or better splits.
As far as amps, Alpine make nice amps around the 500-600 mark that with a nice 12 inch sub later will give you a nice system

I may aswell put in my opinion on something to fit that budget.

Headunit - JVC SX995 Headunit ~$380
Amp - Coustic 481qe ~$400
Front Spits - In my opinion most important part in this budget something like hertz hsk165 ~$300 or mbquart reference series rce216 ~$450
Rear speakers - don't bother I spent $200 on a nice set of 6x9's but I've found as you get a nice set of front splits you really fade them out to nothing
Sub - depends if your after sq of spl plenty of choice with that amp your looking for something thats efficient around 240rms at 4ohms (I'm picking up a jl 12w3v2 sub in a week to run off this amp) ~$150-$400
Don't forget some quality cables (rca's power and speaker) and if possible do the install yourself or with the help of someone who has an idea.
you may also want to sound deaden (front doors and boot) if you go some high quality stuff factor in ~$300 for this I have a fair ammount of decent stuff left over after my doors if anyone is interested.

so thats my opinion on what would form a damned nice system for that budget
