Ok before u guys complain, i DID search and couldnt find a decent thread. I need more torque in my car. 210nm stock just isnt good enough. I dont want to supercharge/turbocharge, so dont mention it. I just want sum ideas that wont cost me ova $500 each (if thats possible). Any examples would b great guys. Im lookin at my 250, 260nm just so u know. Thanx

apart from stroking (which is gonna be well over $500) the only NA thing i can think of is a cam. not sure how much it'd be tho.
could always jam a 318 in there sideways
or maybe a different diff ratio? wouldn't give u more torque but it'd feel like it.

could go a port polish. Would that make it more torquey?

sell the car and buy a dunnydoor for the same value approx
or get a toyota 1gaze ? supercharger off ebay for around 300 bucks and rig it to blow into your efi air intake piping. will bolt on to a bracket like where the air con goes etc very very easy, you could do it in an afternoon. should give you an extra 20-30 Hp or so.

In an afternoon you say??? Any Ebay links??? can u imagine sat AMMI would say "hmm, 18yr old student (read=huge lack of money), Magna (hahha), and supercharged (the kid is desperate), ok insurance will b $800 3rd Party Fire and Theft (that'll make him pissoff)!! How do u think you could hook it up though? Any pictures will defenaitly help.

im not much of a buff with the 1st gens but a cam is only about $280 and that would increase torque a real bit, then get an O/S TB and add a CAI, if you can buggered clean your PCV and give it an all round service, these things will give you alot more torque.
definatly cams mate

Shave the head while fitting a cam (for more compression). Extractors and exhaust would be benificial (if you don't have them already) to take advantage of the cam. Should have a nice improvment:P

so we got:
cams - bout $300+ install
1g-gze supercharger - bout $300-500 depending on condition and where from + installing
add in jaycar pulse adjuster and hand controller = approx $160+ fitting and tuning (assuming u got efi)
then u got urself a cammed up, supercharged, programmable computered beast :)

Why do you need more touque? Lets face it your car has a 70's designed large 4 cylinder engine in it that was designed for max safe(read relaible) torque and power.
I would save ya pennies and get a V6 gen 2/3 rather than spend money on the gen 1.
Has anyone ever transplanted a V6 into a Gen 1?

New zealand got a V6 standard in their Gen1 :(

So is that all that needs to be done to get an astron supercharged ? If i can get a cheap sc12 or 14 ill end up installing it.
millert85

well the 1g-gze sc puts out bout 5-7psi in the soarers. so as long as ur internals weren't rooted that'd be fine. have heard numerous stories of Astron II's running 12psi happly on standard internals. the hardest part would be mounting it. but like the old saying goes... if u can't get it under the bonnet, cut a big hole it it and stack it above.
the jaycar computers are very basic and u have to build them urself, but would be just as effective as a unichip i imagine. i'm not 100% sure they would be suitable for the 1st gen tho. i haven't looked right in to it cuz i don't have a 1st gen nemore (i will have a turbo'd EFI TP wagon tho... soon my pretty... soon). can't see why not tho. then u'd just need some dyno time or some1 with a wideband O2 sensor to help ya tune it.

Yeah i would cut a hole in the bonnet and fit one of those birdcatchers if possible :D
I would like to do it because my car looks pretty run down, (faded paint, different coloured bumper and nose cone, pushed in rear end etc..) but the engine has had a rebuild id say about a year and a half ago IIRC and the head is a reco so it should be pretty good.
If i can get a spare 1.5k ill see if i can get it going that should be enough for the everything. Me and my bro would install everything our selfs.
I cant see anything happening anytime soon though i might not even do it but do you think it would be good for 14 second run at 6psi ?

I have a CAI with a K&N installed. my digi cam has completely disapeared so i cant take a pic damnit.
But what i did was i whent to supercheap, and got my self one of those flexi hoses and from Bunnings, i got an angle drain pipe thingy.
I threw the crappy plastic bit that is connected to air filter enclosure first
I stuffed the flexi hose down the hole thats infront of the battery ( take plastic cap off). Stuffed it down there enough to poke a little from under the bumper then i bolted that angle drain pipe onto these metal brackets (towing brackets ? ) then put the flexi hose in the bracket.
Just make sure you have enough slack in the hose so you can put the battery back it. The hose wrapps around the battery.
The hose would be big enough to fit over the oval lip on the air filter enclosure. To make sure it doesnt come off, buy 2 ring clamps take them apart, and make one out of them if you know what i mean. I did this because i tried with one big one and it didnt 'mold' into the oval shape.
**** that damn digi cam its gone

what plastic cap? i have no place to feed 80mm pipe down to the bumber unless i squeeze it to an oval shape to fit between the radiator and under the battery mount but that kinda kills the idea of cai
Gemini
20-04-2006, 08:37 PM
Are you sure ?
It should be infront of the battery holder. Maybe certain models didnt have it

i was going to have to attack the bodywork with a grinder. Mine doesn't have the plastic cap either. Maybe its a TP thing not to.

Thats strange. I wonder why the TN's have them there ? Must be a reason for it.

21-04-2006, 06:13 PM
I got a TP elite sedan and a installed my cai meself with one of those cold air flex pipes from supercheap and some zip ties :P There was a circle in front of the battery which was welded sealed with another square bit of metal over it so i just grabbed a screw driver and hacked at it, eventually came off n now got the same setup as Gemini but with out the right angle bracket thingy.

Ive done the CAI. Basically i just removed the piping already there and the air pod just sucks straight in. It makes a small difference, but still a difference. Plus the exhaust is much louder! :D

making a hole in that part of the car doent that make the car unroadworthey?
Gemini
22-04-2006, 08:10 PM
I dont know man. Aparently you can defect your car by cutting holes in the door's to fit speakers
PeteW
23-04-2006, 03:37 PM
i know you cant cut holes in the back shelf for speakers dunno about doors
The_Monk
23-04-2006, 03:42 PM
Oh... er... that makes my magna defective. Note to self: get parcel shelf out of an elite to get speaker holes.
EDIT:
I guess the smoke, bouncyness, broken tranny, etc wont affect the defect...
New zealand got a V6 standard in their Gen1 :(
That right, that I know of they are call a v3000.:)

Hey im wondering wat can u do to the TB? I mean any difference is good, but im just wondering wat can i do, ive got little idea bout them, but i know u can make a difference wit them.
burfadel
04-05-2006, 01:05 AM
So with no modifications to the door except for the chipboarding you can get defected? thats stupid! oops... lol I might have to make out I don't have 6x9's in there.
