hey guys....

i need a lot of help with my 3.0 v6 magna.

my clutch is fu*ked, so theres my first problem... {but its new.. so ill get it fixxed under warranty. Anyways.... i was cruising down the M1 in brisbane last night cruise at about 80km/h {2000rpm}.... my temp guage is at half and no warning lights illuminate on the dash.... so anyways... im driving along... then all of a sudden, my rpm needed justs starts going spastic...... like... just skitzo! it would bounce up to about 4000rpm, then back down to about 2500rpm then back up to about 4000rpm.... it would do this fast and repetidly but the engine wouldnt rev... - by this time... i was looking for somewhere to pull over, then a few seconds later... the engine light illuminates and the car stalls and dies..... - i look down at the temp guage... and the needle is OVER the red line of hot....

This afternoon when i went to sus out what happened... i tried starting it... and there is a whine / "screech" noise which sounds like its coming from the alternator.... but im unsure.... as to where the noise is coming from....

i believe the car just over heated.... but it doesnt sound right.... something else is wrong...

Has anyone had a problem like this or know of a problem like this??

i need some advice asap if its possible...

thanks guys in advance.

James.

First do your basic checks, see if you have oil and it doesnt look like coffee milk, make sure you have water in the rad to see if it boiled dry. Check all the plugs you can find under the bonnet and make sure they are tight, check all your hoses and belts to make sure they are ok.

Where are you. PM me if you dont wanna put it on line.

the overflow bottle is just under half way full.... the oil is fairly new... replaced it last weekend.... theres water in the radiator... cos when the cap came off... steam just billowed out.. then spat out water...

im in brisbane.

if you can warm up the engine, then check the hoses going from the coolant bottle to the radiator. there could be a blockage of some sort preventing the hot coolant reaching the radiator for cooling. things to look into would be the coolant temp sensor, the thermostat and the radiator (hoses included). if the CTS or thermostat has failed, it should come up on the ECU diagnostics check if you havent reset the battery

My mums 2nd gen was overheating recently. To the point where the guage would reach max temp.

Cause? Her radiator fan stoped working, meaning on hot days a completely full radiator and overflow bottle would boil dry.

However if it got to the point of stalling, maybe you have done some damage?

Water pump might have gone?

Water pump runs of the belt and if it died then the belt would make noise the car would over heat and it would come 2 a stop.

does that mean it's beyond repair/have to replace the whole motor?
