Hey guys.
So a while back I got a Lukey cat-back fitted. While the tone is now awesome when the engine is warm and i give it the boot, on a cold-ish engine or mild driving, you can barely hear the thing and is almost stock.
Now im not looking at waking the neighbours up or anything, was just trying to think of some cheap and easy ways to get a bit more volume from it. My thoughts were perhaps removing one of the resonators? (AFAIK there are 2 on the 3rd gens correct?)
Ive read other people didnt like the sound when both resonators were removed, any opinions on the sound if just one is?
Also ive heard Extractors give a deeper but not necerily louder tone?
Sugestions?

yeah i removed the middle resonator on one of my magnas and it ended up sounding very tinny.. it was loud though... wouldnt recommended doing it though...
loud exhausts are so over-rated........it becomes annoying, and a hassle.

They are also cop magnets.

im sure that the magnas come with 2 mufflers for sure but not sure of how many resonators exactly if u want to make it loud with out the tinny or fart sound get rid of the first muffler and keep the resonators.
Right now i have 1 muffler and 1 resonator 2.5" cat back loud but not cop bait as ive never been pulled over or had a 2nd look from them.

Hang on, he got a cat-back so really, he should know exactly whats on the system and get it replaced, the most common and most used system is one resonator and one muffler, if you only got your rear muffler changed then its not cat-back... if you want noise get a 3" catback and use a cannon with no other mufflers or resonators.

a large tip will act as an amplifier, to a point,
worked good on my friends lancer, put a straight through muffler on the rear, and it was good, the we put a 4" dumper, and was awsome

You've got a front, small muffler a resonator and the rear muffler, if you were after more volume I wouldn't remove the resonator unless you like civic/lancer fart, a better bet would be the front smaller muffler, assuming after getting the exhaust you still have one. If you don't then go for another rear muffler, just whatever you do don't remove the resonator :P

My old TH 1 muffler and 1 resonator, the muffler was in the middle and the resonator was out back, it gave it an awsome note and it was loud. I was always getting comments of how the car sounds, no magna I've hered sounded like it, I'll be getting it again. Mine was'nt tinny, but around 3000rpm when I was getting up it I was told it had that resonance noise, but then it went away quickly.

My middle muffler is a big slab of 2.5" piping.
:D
After fitting my extractors and Mantra system, I hooned around for a while. The note was really nice with the middle muffler on, but it wasn't quite as loud as I expected. So I chopped the bastard off.

Nah man... they're fully sic!
Swap the muffler for a canon. Guarenteed to make it loud and crap.

:bowrofl:
I hate 'farty' exhausts... mine only gets noisy when the loud pedal gets a good boot... at idle and low rpm it sounds stock as a rock.
And thats the way 'uh huh uh huh' I like it.
edit: Although, I think if your modding your exhaust purely for the noise it makes, then your probably best off buying a canon and being done with it.

Ohh man I hate my exhaust boom (drone, whatever). Sure the sound is awsome when your stretching it out, but thats like what, 20% of the total time spent driving?
I hate droning:cry:

hmmmmmmmm
thanks guys.
When/if i get my extractors done Ill look at removing the first muffler. By the sounds of it, removing of resonators = farty/tinny/crap/whatever
And no, i will not get a canon :P like I said, I dont want to wake the neighbours.
Anyone want to add their thoughts/knowledge in on what extractors do to the sound? Ive heard
* Makes no difference
* A bit louder
* A bit deeper
and every variation of. So im not too sure what to think. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get them

Add extractors and a High flow cat either Metalcat or Supercat etc. Lets more note thru and the header pulsing is cool :D

3 in cat back with hotdog complete with cannon = loud head turning engine
drones like hell going up hill,
sound depends on how hard you planting your foot ( i have found)
do i love it :) :) :)
i don't have an air filter due to that supposed 'flatspot'
sounds like you got some mods under the hood or an auto box one or the other

altering length and restrictions on exhaust and induction systems will alter how your cars sounds. I agree that if you whack some extractors and a highflow cat it'll probably get louder if its quite; i put a cold air intake on my ts and my exhuast got louder; i love how smooth and ballsy my idle sounds from it too. Only thing i'd like it to get louder as rpms rise but could be due to the fact that the engine dies top end.

or u can change the muffler, i had al ukey on my old 3L Auto, sure it was nice above 4000rpm but too quiet for me
but i also not a fan of cannons that much
my new magna came with a SuperX muffler, sounds like a quiet cannon, little bit of droning at 2000 rpm but doesnt worry me coz i usually have my music on, either way i love it
the sound reminds me of magnaflow and x-force mufflers too
of course if u dont wanna spend the money on a new muffler then look at ur piping, as everyone else has said removing res's makes magnas sound tinny
wait til after ur extractors go on then see what it sounds like
