View Full Version : (Parras) Headlights on, So Are Parkers?
[TUFFTR]
26-03-2006, 05:23 PM
hey guys, i noticed today when i had my headlights on (this is with the parabolics) the parkers stayed on aswell, which made me go  as im making my own Red parkers (Luxeon LED, Resistor) to repalce them, and its gonna look dicky having my headlight on and a red tinge behind it
so does anyone else have parras and if you do do you have this problem aswell?
cause i thought once the headlights go on the parkers turn off?
cheers paul

Ummm... no. The parkers stay on all the time, it should be like this with all headlights.
I can see my LED parkers when the headlights are on, but not all that well.

bugger, so i guess the Red LED idea is out the door...
for some stupid reason i thought its just the headlight thats on....
you can play with the wiring to not make this happen. Ive done it myself but cant remember the wire to wire instructions. A search might bring up some results. .. but it is possible.

should just have to remove the parkers from the headlight and high beam circuits

Dont know how parra's are diff from the standard lights (refractory wise) but i know when both my parkers (green) and headlights are on u can only see the smalleest green dot where the actual LED is and all the rest is drowed our by the white light.
By the way red parkers bad idea, cops in any state will slap u with a caneary, no red on the front or white on the bak, happend to a mate of mine (in vic)

reversing light being the exception lol
cop said it confuses motorists, white means on comming, hence white reversing lights coz ur going in the direction ppl see ya white lights in (i know i cant word a sentace for crap). so if ya bunged red on the front o ya car ppl comming toward you from the oppiste direction think you're travelling in the same direction as them. this was they cops reasoning anyway.

I have the same problem!
Only thing is, i need replacement xenons for the parker lights cos they have this yellow tinge when the headlights are on!
I guess you could unplug them... :doubt:

Before you do anythnig like that...you better check the legalities with your local motor registry.
As the ADR's state you can only have white, amber/yellow for front lights.

splice the wire that runs to the parkers and put them on a switch.
then you can put them on and off as you please, probably the easiest way to.

Man no xenon replacements?
Ahhh there must be something that can be done
Mikong spares in canley vale have lots of goodies for lights i'm gonna check it out this weekend i'll let ya know if i come across replacements! :doubt:

if you turn your parkers off you will also
turn off your tail lights and dash lights
they are all linked
my diamante headlights have two parkers in each head light
and i was thinking of disconecting the ones in the hi beam part of the light
and putting blue ones in there on there own switch
im not sure if this could be done with parras but i cant see why not
FFEEkY
27-03-2006, 09:31 AM
it shouldnt turn everything off if you put the switch in at the parker itself.

(Looks like my previous response got lost in the post...)
You can get wide-angle T10 LEDs as replacements, there are a whole heap of different types on ebay, some might be better suited than others. Have also seen xenon-type incandescents.
But apparently parker bulbs can be a real pain to remove. Haven't tried it yet, so can't comment from experience.

27-03-2006, 04:16 PM
Thanks for that!
Na they're a sinch!
Cept for the right hand side you might need to remove the washer resevoir.
But yeah just slide the wiring connector off and pop it out! :D
Just dont know what to ask for to replace the parker lights the vehicle manual doesn't say what model the parker lights are etc.
All i know is the headlights are H4 HEHE lol

LOL here are mine.
they are White parkers, yet they look blue, so i can't be busted ;)
but they work really well and give a great look
[TUFFTR]
27-03-2006, 06:38 PM
niceeeeeeee man, so they are just "wide angle T10's?"
man i asked the guys at autobarn AND jaycar and both said they dont have them in LED, pfff, wankers..
ADZA27
27-03-2006, 06:44 PM
nah they are BA9S LED's with a flat counter sunk perspex head(instead of your standard round head LED) It gives you a much better light dispersion as some of the light gets reflected nicely around the Headlight mirror :) i think it just looks really cool :)
for some reason my Park lights were of the Bayonet style and not the Wedge base... Go figure .....

27-03-2006, 07:06 PM

I'd heard they were T10 (wedge base), but haven't physically checked, so don't take my word for it. It may also be different for different lights (my parker connections were different on the Jap Diamante lights than the standard TS lights, had to resolder the connections...)

Hi,
I'm new to the magna's and this club and was just wondering if the parras fit a 1991 TR and if they do where would i get a set.
Thanks

They sure will!
Parras usually cost $330 each headlight so your looking at $660 for the pair!
But rssid has ordered heaps of them for the club!
They cost around $330 for the pair from him! (which is half retail price!)
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30609
PM him or let him know he'll get them sent out to ya!
Now is the chance cos parras are really rare

RE: parker bulb type, I just looked at both my old stock TS/TR ones and my paras (Jap, same as KS), and they have DIFFERENT BULBS. The TR/TS style uses T10s, same as your instrument cluster, but the paras have a bayonet style, probably the ones listed above, I haven't checked anywhere to confirm exactly what the proper name is.
In fact, the whole parker light assembly seemed very different, the TR/TS ones used a rubber boot/socket thing, whereas the paras used dual metal spring-clip things...

jus try and put the red LED in and turn ur lighs on and see if u can still see them. coz i have phillips crystal vision globes u cant really see my parkers on but all u see is a small blue dot which u cant notice but if u come up close to the headlight u can see a blue ring around my parras coz the 3rd gen parras have a mirror like thing in a circle and my LED parkers are right on top of it so it looks like angel eyes.

Hey!
I just recieved some blue parkers from ADZ and they work cept the passenger side one doesn't because apparently the wiring was put the wrong way (which is common with veradas/magnas with paras?) So! I unplugged the parkers temporarily until i'll be able to swap the green and black wire around and i think it looks way better with the parkers unplugged! No more *yellow/orange* haze around the nice clear lights!
Check it out :D

Normally it's not an issue, as incandescent lights aren't biased, ie., no matter which way you power them, they still work the same way.
Can't think what the setup of the bayonet is; can you just turn the LED 180degrees and pop it back in?
Same with the T5s and T10s in dash lighting; I just put one in in one direction (resistor on a certain side), the other in the other direction, popped the cluster back in, and checked which one worked. Then just twist the non-working LED 180degrees.

No you can't.. unfortunately as ther is a resistor in there... to much fiddling around..also its a bit dodgy as the inside pin should be +ve but in this case its the casing thats positive.. not good.. ie if the casing touches earth.. byebye fuse ;) i did it once while trying my white ones..
Dimi.. Take the connector apart.. and on the car side of the wiring.. not the plug on the headlight. there is a little plastic clip that fits snuggly on the inside of the connector.. this needs to be popped out. then you can remove the wires and swap them around..
gimme a call tommorow and i will walk over to zenith and help you at lunch.

I took the little cream coloured plastic bit off then the orange rubbery thing on one of them and i only see copper wire. I can't take it off it wont let me pull it out/off?
Do I have to cut the wire? Cos I prefer not too as I don't have a soldering kit.
Any help would be really good
