Well here we go....
Got a TE Magna Executive....
Had lowered springs once upon a time.
Replaced with Standard Height Ones...
All of a sudden ...
When cornering (ever so slightly to full lock ) at all times or changing from 2 surfaces (uneven even by a few millimeters) i get a knock in the front suspension...
Took it to my mechanic, who is usually pretty good, and he found that the CV Joints were rooted and had the boots torn and hardly any grease in them... So i replaced them both sides with BRAND NEW ones.
Also noticed that the Sway Bar Bushes were worn out to so changed them (only cost $6.50) so why not do it at the same time...
The week before took the car to Pedders, did a test and they said that the shocks are good and installed properly...
So now i am wondering what else it could be....
Has anyone else had these problems before and what did it turn out to be....
It is driving me crazy!!!

pedders are useless
make sure there is oil in the shock, you may have popped the top ( you wont see the oil )
happened to me
also, prolly a given, but you've had a wheel allignment i assume?
checked the actual steering rack?

Is it really a 'knock' sound or a creaking noise?
Mine is the latter, but thats because my spring insulators are goooooone.

if the struts are actually fitted ok, id check the top of the struts.. the insulators.. the bearings in them, when stuffed, can cause a knocking noise when turning the steering wheel.
good luck mate!

Could be come to think of it shocks... as the springs were changed... now that i recall...
But why would it not happen right away? And after a while (a year later)

check springs seated correct? top bolts done up, just think about it, take the wheel off and tighten everything, if u can get no movement then obviously theres something to do with the strut thats shagged. theres not that many moving parts.

Is the knock in the steering over certain bumps? If so, it is the actual steering column It is a common problem with the TE/KE series despite what people tell you.
You can test it by ducking your head under the column and holding the knuckle that connects to the steering column above the pedals. With the engine off, hold the knuckle tightly and rock steering wheel left to right. If you feel some play or a knock, chances are it could be the column.
Not hard Job to replace and get a good s/hand one for around $50 from the wreckers. Make sure it is out of a TF or TH series as these seem to be better columns.

are there any replacement rack mounts (maybe made by super pro - white line / others) that are hard plastic, rather than soft rubber
that would tighten up the mounting - and get rid of some of the steering play that older magna's are famous for

Try an emergency stop, see if you get it then (not reccomended in traffic :P)
After you stop, take off as fast as you can and see if it does it again. I had this ages ago and it turned out to be an engine mount, not in the shocks at all.

Here is my story re the knocking. My vehicle is lowered with King Springs super lows and compressed a little more. The knocking noise is irritating. Took my car in yesterday to a suspension shop and had it checked out. To me it sounded like a strut. Anyway had the struts on the front replaced with KYB gas units old ones were quite soft and bouncy. Verdict noise is still there worse now because i had the springs reset a little lower. Further investigations we noticed binding marks on the coils. Have a look when the car is on the ground and see how close the coils are to each other you will notice they are quite close. I will be taking my car in tommorow after work to have another look. Initially the tech said he can wrap the coil with a plastic insulator which would probably stop the noise. I opted for struts first but will try the insulator next. I am hopfull this will either eliminate the knocking noise or reduce it so the coils dont bang on each other over the bumps. Note its gotten worse now that the car sits lower.

Here is the update. Went back to the suspension place this morning. The boys put some insulators on the second or third coil on front left and front right side havent had a look yet. The knocking noise is now gone. So im a happy chappy. Try this it may work for you. Hope it helps..
Best Regards

cheak that you have bumpstops on the struts and they are not stuffed
