I was just wondering on what peoples thought were regarding bonnet scoops???

I'm considering getting one for the car but I just wanted to know what other magna owners thought of them.

I would do it only if it had a practical use. Booyas sort of does but how effective it is I have no idea. TBuTchers would be good if it was fully cut out.

I reckon that if you stuck on a WRX scoop just for looks, you'd get paid out by people who think you're pretending you have a top mounted intercooler. I know I used to give curry to Excel drivers with those plastic scoops which went nowhere.

Get the one TButcher has, that serves the purpose of extracting the hot air out when the radiator fans start to kick in or when the car in motion. (Think Lancer Evos) Purpose built just to do that. And also because hot air rises, when the car is stationary, it will still be extracting hot air out.

With Booya's WRX/Hyundai style, what happens is that he will get an airlock in the engine bay because of the forward facing scoop he has. The air that runs in conflicts with the air coming from the grille and this does not give good extraction of engine heat at all. If It's done the other way round with the indent of the hole below the bonnet line it will work more efficiently.

The forward facing type would be good if it was connected to the filter to act as cold air induction.

Its rice BOoya.. Admit It!
Anyways.. tbutchers definetely look the goods and also serve a purpose, as stated by MagnaV6Sports13. Give it that funky ass aggressive look and also, with my limited knowledge, I believe it would be good to hook up a CAI to the intake.. correct me if im wrong.. :?

Correct me if I'm wrony TBuTcher but at the moment, his vents don't go anywhere so they are only cosmetic. He's not finished with it though.

they go into the engine bay...
When I am stoped at the lights I can see the heat rising from out of the main vents...
the side intake is aimed at the POD...

But you are correct it is not finished to the point where the CAI is working properly and is soley directed into the POD.

yeah it would help.... but rearward facing ones do help as it allows for an opening for the hot air to escape (aka TButchrs)...

i've also seen a WRX (heavily modded with front mount IC, in some performance mag) that had the stock scoop spun around backwards to allow for the air to escape out there!!

also there are a heap of taxi's in Newy with backwards facing scoops!!

Yeah well different ones for different uses is basically what I was saying.

It'd be folly to use the forward facing for extraction of hot air, and it's silly to use a backwards one for intake.

That's why you see some cars with the extraction type on the sides of the bonnet (think older XR6 vents) and a scoop in the middle.

...(think older XR6 vents)

You know, I had a look at them and WRX ones at some stage and they were purely cosmetic. It was strange. They looked good on the top then the underside of the bonnet was completely covered over.

Yeah I know lol...I was just using them as an example coz everyone knows what they look like :D

Just wondering, do you drive your car in the rain?
if so, does it dirty your engine bay much having so much venting?
and what about water in the POD? hmm???
how do you design it so you are sure no water will get in?

I'm more interested in the cleaniness part the engine bay.

Good questions!
1 - Yes I drive in the rain.. No it doesnt dirty in much at all as teh rain either evaporates before it gets onto the engine (the heat coming up from the holes is quite hot) or it doesnt even get in there, since as Im moving along the air flow is up and over the vents... not into them. Also since I have a sports I have an engine cover over the engine. The holes are directly above teh lowest part of the cover.. and therefor just runs off and away from the electrics part.

2 - Water and POD... ATM since it is not forced... it is not an issue as the air going in throught the side vent swirls around near the opening of the pod... However once I have a sealed box that has the POD in itit will just have a drain hole in the bottom for any water that may get in.. also the air just goes into a collection sealed box first and not straight onto/into the POD.

3 - How Clean ?... Well I reckon it doesnt get any dirtier than normal. Mind you if you armour oiled the cover or something stupid like that then there is a greater chance of dust setteling in there.

4 - Storage... During the day at work I put on a car cover .. (cannot remember the brand ..Kenco I think .. 120 from Super cheap..) it is white, super light and water tight.. (hehe that rhyms) and I think it is out-o-sight.
I also use this at home as I cannot get the car nito the garage since (its to low, and I have a 1976 GD Galant Coupe in there) :D

i reckon a small scoop near the front-right hand side of the bonnet would be good........ then noone would have to pay $500+ for decent cold-air-intake,

also, i believe the ol chargers used to have a small scoop there, back in the day when i wasnt born yet, looked good i thought
