My 2002 Sports has suddenly gotten noticable slower to kick into gear when selecting drive. Have others had this problem? What does it mean - how can it be fixed?

I went to Mitsubishi with the same problem and they told me that up to 3 seconds to engage drive is acceptable. I know it doesn't help but thought I would pass it on anyway.

auto transmission service place would be appropriate to ask for information as mitsu dont know how to service their own cars, let alone autos

It's time to change your auto tranny fluid. Choose Mitsubishi Diamond SP III spec fluid or any SP III spec fluid.

Have it checked, it doesnt sound right that you need fluid change that quick.

75k is way overdue for an ATF fluid change. It's cheap and good preventive maintenance to change ATF often than not. Remember the tranny is the weakest link, not the engine.

I had the same problem with my TE a few months ago.
Went to Mitsubishi, the guy went for a test drive come back and smell the fluid and said " You use the wrong fluid mate."
He recommended a tranny service and flush and he said some special kind of fluid should be use. ( can't remember the name)
cost me $260 and now the car is fine.:P

Slowing going into gear is usally a sign the fluid is low..
Whats the level like..??
Id be getting a tranmission shop to do a service on it.. dont waste your time with a 15yo apprentice doing it at mits..:)
