gday all,

this is my first post on AMC.
Ive got a 4 cylinder TE and am considering putting an exhaust on it. Being a 4 cylinder, i know that there is not much point in putting $$$$ into performance so the main criterior for my exhaust is that is has to sound good.
So...ive got a question for any 2.4l magna owners out there. What type of exhaust do you have and how does it sound.

Also, i know a lot of people have super low springs on the front and lows on the rear, but i want to know is there any reason why i shouldn't put lows on the front and superlows on the rear. If anyone has this set-up please post some pics.

And one more question, if i lower my car, do i need to replace the shockies.

Thanks in advance.

PS if ive asked anything stupid, go easy...IM NEW

Superlows on the front and lows on the back make the guards magnas look even all round, cause the front guards are higher up than the back guards.

Depends on the type of shockies. Some aren't designed to be lowered (ie. Sensatrac). I think the stock ones will be sensatrac?

hi there
i have a 2.4l and have done alot of mods to my ride...with regards to lowering i went heavy duty king springs (lows) with munroe gas shocks all round and a camber kit,the car rides really well oh yeah tires are 17 x7's bridgestone G111's (225x55x17) and i will eventually go super lows in the front with low profiles all round but for the moment this set up is good.
one concern i have is when i go super lows on front how extra carefull i will have to be not to hit things or bottom out at the front end its very annoying anyway buddy hope the info helps
cheers benny

hello there
dont know about the exhaust i have a sports turbo muffler on a standard system which sounds really good when your above 3000rpm but below 5000rpm after 5000rpm its gets a funky whistle happening :doubt: and drones really badly when on the hi-way so after a 8 hour road trip with stereo going aswell your ears are ringing  im changing my exhuast to something alot less noisy not really sure yet... i have been told that just a normal sports exhuast will sound much better i spose you really need to do your homework in this department and depends on the cash you want to outlay oh yeah watch out for dodgy workmanship aswell... but the v6 sounds really awesome with a sports exhaust...

Whats wrong with having 2.4L?
I am happy with mine.

Not much point in the Exhaust though, you may ended up using higher fuel comsumption.

nexus, how would an exhaust lead to worse fuel consumption. i thought it would let the engine operate more efficiently. ie better fuel consumption.

benny, where abouts in NSW are you. id jump at the chance to hear you setup.

thanks all

one more thing, how much would i be looking at for shocks

hey buddy
im in nowra nsw my car is nothing flash to listen to as much as she is my baby i personally am not happy with it(sound) however others say it is a really distinct resonance and people know where i am by my exhuast(dont know if that is such a good thing lol ) but im always up for a road trip when i get the chance..:) so lets catch up some time.
As for the shocks you will be looking around $120 approx if i remember rightly
cheers benny
p.s fuel consumption is also tied to exhaust back pressure so im told ,so too little back pressure equals slightly more fuel consumption there is a fine line well thats what im told ...

Thats what I thought, but apprently different Exhaust may lead to different results, do a search on Canons and sports exhauts, some have indicated that it uses more fuel. This is just what I have came across here in the forums and people agreed to it. It also depends on situations as well but as far as I know, there is not much of a need to change it unless for your case you want the 'sound'.

Where I read about this?

fuel economy???? on paper the 2.4L does something like 0.5L/100km less than the 3.0 but anyway i wrote off a 2.4L and got a V6 but i couldn't say the 2.4L was a bad engine, its good for city driving but not too much fun on the open roads :) the 2.4L did mean alot to me too it has just under 50000km and it was my aunty's car since new hmmm :/

Shouldnt be much difference, you may just ask the tech guy at the shop. I was recommended the Canon or the sports exhausts. Have some research here in the forums before you decide on it.

Love my 2.4L fuel eco, wont mind a V6 power for open roads, but have traveled quite a bit on my Magna since bought.

cheers!
