My wagon's roof bars have started losing their paint. :eh:
C'mon MMAL, this on a 2002 KJ which just clicked over 4 yrs old?!

Same here. Its a similar problem to what people are having on their wiper blade arms.
I just get a black texter and colour the flaked off part in.
Too much hassle respraying them all the time.

The feet on my cross bars are flaking while the endcaps of the rails are bubbleing. I'm thinking about pulling the whole lot off and fixing it, maybe powder coating. If I do the factory cross bars are bin material, prefer Thule. Then again, the only reason the coss bars are still on the car is the tool for them is missing.

I once bought a $15 "security" screwdriver bit set in a red rubber box from Dick Smiths that has a few hole-in-allen type bits that'll probably fit the crossbars. Plus a heap of other bits that'll take apart heaps of stuff where you're not meant to. lol
Mine are coonveniently "stored" at my uncle's place; he's gotten himself a TL wagon & he'll probably use them more often than I.

Did the car originally come with a tool for it?
(I bought my TJ wagon second-hand, and have never seen any Mitsu-supplied tool for it).

Yup - there's a star bit in those sets that'll definitely fit the cross bars.
I leave the cross-bars on mine, as they're just so convenient if you ever need them, although they do contribute to wind noise at country speeds though.
Cheers,
Martin.

yeah, I've got a little red-rubber-handled T-bar allenkey for the racks.
Its ok for taking them off (once), but bit fiddley when putting them back on (once).
If I were to do it again think I'd pull out a powerdriver with the Dicko bit. :P

yeah, used something like that before... repainted the black sidestrip plastics of TN wagon, which went a bit grey after an intimate date with the lambswool buffer. lol
Its just a semigloss black.
How does the roof bars come off anyway?
The ones screwed to the car... can't see any screw holes (btw I ain't very tall), so
am suspecting the screws are from inside the shell? Need to remove headlining?? :doubt:
