View Full Version : Are heavier springs better?
I've noticed aftermarket springs ie. Kings, Lovells seem to be much heavier than standard springs. Is the extra weight meant to provide better stability / handling?
Also, most people seem to compress after market springs. Anyone had stock magna rims compressed to at least superlow height? Is it possible or is there a limit to how much you can compress? :) cheers

The heavier/stiffer aftermarket springs reduce the body float/rolling during driving and hence enhance the manuverability of the vehicle from stock. The ride will be firmer with these springs. There will generally be some (even minor) tradeoff between handling and comfort.
Compressing Stock springs down to superlow would not be a great idea. They wouldn't have the right spring rate and you'd probably bottom out too much. I'm sure it could be done though.

After market springs are heavier because they are a thicker metal to reduce bounce. Compressing standard springs is asking for trouble as the spring "rate" would be to fast for a lowered car and you'ld probably end up bouncing off bump stops all day long

i was thinking bout compressing my stock springs for my TH but cost wise its not worth it and ye as others said its not good. thinks its bout $100 to get all four springs compressed and its $240 for brand new kings. so kings would me worth it. and plus if u compress ur stock springs or even chop em it will be to bouncy
