Hey all,
I recently tinted the front and side indicators, and the rear reflector in the bumber of my KH.
I used the standard nightshade, but found I did it to dark first time round.
When I sanded it all back with wet/dry sandpaper, I decided to go full hog, and also sanded off the little printed letters you see on the plastic for a much smoother finish!
Few light coats, wet/dry, gloss, wet/dry, and more gloss and tada...
What you guys think?

Yeah, already done that to the front. Was just in a hurry to get the car back together cause i had places to go.
You'll notice the front indicators are shinier than the side repeaters.
And mine aren't too dark. I done them just to take the tinge of orange off them.
I'm considering getting the magna indicators and removing the orange inside, and getting the 380 clear side repeaters.
What you guys think for a silver Verada?

Honestly? It looks like a standard indicator which hasn't been cleaned. Seriously I think 99% of the population would not even notice you had done anything to your indicators. Therefore since you also can't see them (at all) when you're driving, I don't think it's worth it, especially since it makes your car defectable and your insurance void.

99% of what people do to their car never gets noticed 99% of the time...
I do it cause i like it.
Do you install a kick ass stereo for you, or for the 99% of the population that will never hear it?
But thanks for the feedback. :D

Ahh but you see a stereo has a purpose when you're driving. (You can actually hear it yourself when driving). Tinted side indicators don't. You can't see them when you're driving, so are they for the 1% of the population who can?

Yeah, with that mentality why does anyone put a body kit on thier car cos you cant see it while driving, why do people care what colour thier car is as all you can see from the inside is a little bit of the hood... I think tinted tail lights or indicators can look good on any silver/white/black car but stray far from that and they just look out of place.
ahahaha i love looking at my car when I drive past windows or glasses from shops... makes u proud :D

Looks good.
As long as you don't go too dark, you shouldn't get picked up (if ya lucky).
But having said that, they're still illegal. Just hope we don't get caught
One thing I did to help not get picked up is to install LED bulbs. I found that there wasn't much difference between tail lights & stop lights when tinted. The LED bulbs fixed that - they're much brighter on stop now. :D
The different thing you have done is to shave (sand) off the letters etc. - saw this in an AutoSpeed email/article once. Looks nice & smooth.

I used "Nightshade"... you can buy it from Autobarn for about $13 a can.
Also used a high gloss spray to shine it up, and to lock in the colour. Nightshade does tend to fade quite dramatically over time.
As i did with mine, wet/dry sandpaper (Used Wet) works a treat before any paint application at all. Maybe even sand off the lettering like I did for a smoother finish.
After one coat of nightshade (do it in the shade, because the sun hitting them can make your lights darker than you wanted them), sand lightly with fine wet sandpaper, then coat with gloss spray. After about 30 minutes, go over again with sandpaper, then gloss again.
once this has dried, it should look 100%!!! If you then wanna use a wax/polish to give it one fine luster, you can.
And your done!

By shaving off the letters, you have removed the E mark, techically making them non-ADR compliant (seriously nit-picking)...
I do know noone cares...

Tinting them makes them illegal in the first place...
And i think that will get noticed before the fact the letters arent there.
But you're right.

Looks good mate, but why go with sandpaper to remove the nightshade i found metho worked brilliant just an easy rub and it all comes off, i had my taillights on the laser nearly black lol!
So that E means ADR compliant, wicked cause i found chrome tail lights with the E mark ;)

i'm actually wanting a set of Magna front indicators so i can take out the inner orange lens like WTCHME. Then get the clear 380 ones aswell.
So if someone here wants tinted lights instead of their magna stockies, give me a hollar.
