There is nothing I love better then I big bad a$$ woofer in a nice box with a big round port sticking out blowing you away. I am interested in slot ports though as they take up less room and have a steathy look.

Are there any pro's or cons to the slot port vs a round port.

Am I correct in that you need a correct surface area ( say 4cm x 14cm ) and you only need a single baffle of variable length the make the slot work, i.e. say a 14cm ( lenght of the port ) x 25cm ( length of the baffle to tune the port inside the box ) baffle separating the woofer from the slot?

Thanks guys.

I dunno, i tried a few online calculator programs n stuff to calculate port areas and lengths. In the end i e-mailed DDPhil (for my DD woofer of course:P) about the enclosure and he said i was on the right track, just the software was dodgey.

Slot ports are good coz u can change the tuninng of them by changing the lengths. Also adds bracing to the box. Some say circular look better, but i've always gone with the circular ones coz of how easy they are to do. Cut a hole and shove in a PVC pipe or similar.

Port area would depend on ur woofer really...u also have to watch out for the vent velocity so you don't get any whistly sounds.

Yeah I usually use CCA calculator and WINisd and take an average. WINisd gives you the vent velocity as well so I tested it and it seems pretty accurate. When a DD moves though it will push air!

Just for arguments sake the sub is a G5 and yes it is going to be ported :D The above measurements are not what i'm going to use. I will have to sit down later and find all that out. It will be mounted in a 2.1cuft box with a flat back and a slight lean at the front.

It just seems that every slot example I see, the port isn't fully inclosed like a PVC pipe, it usually only has a baffle to separate the woofer and the slot...

Yep, the internal baffle works fine. Just make sure that the end of the baffle on the inside doesn't end too close to the perpendicular wall of the enclosure, otherwise you'll get port noise.

Circle ports are more efficient and therefore louder because there’s no sharp corners on the inside. You can improve a slot port though by rounding off any sharp intersections within it. Also, make sure the inside of the port is baby butt smooth. Generally, circle ports are easier to adjust in length, since you can pull them straight out and cut them. A slot port baffle usually requires you to pull the box apart to get to it.

Hope this helps :D

Yeah it sure does, I am currently running it in the same size box with a round port so i like how that sounds so I will tune the new box to the same Hz ( 26-28Hz ). Problem with the existing box is that it takes up to much room.
