Hi all,
My dad took my Verada out yesterday, and he had stopped in a traffic light on a pretty steep hill. When he took his foot off the break, the car started rolling back quite a bit.
Is this a feature in new cars to take pressure off the transmission, or is there something wrong with the idling?
There are no mods in the car that can be affecting the idling.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Hey guys I am experiencing a similar problem, except I roll forwards. Like ill stop at the top of a hill facing down, soon as I take my foot off the brake I roll forward?! Whats the go with that?

Sarcasm doesn't always work over the Internet.
It could be his father's first time driving an automatic.

Thanks everyone.
My dad's has driven many cars in his time, but for some reason he just felt it more than normal in my Verada.
Thanks!lol
Onkytonk, maybe your dad's used to driving BMW's. I believe that all BMW's, even 1990's models, have a built-in feature in their auto trannys that just "locks" the car in a stationary position, no matter how steep the uphill incline is.
This is to prevent the disconcerting roll-back when you take your foot off the brake and in the split second before you accelerate away.

I've noticed that compared to other cars I've driven with automatics, my Magna doesn't seem to creep much when in Drive off brakes. If I'm on a flat surface in slow moving traffic and lift off the brake, it will barely creep at all. As such, I find myself having to give the accelerator a slight prod to get the car moving to sit with the flow of slow moving traffic. Is this some fuel saving measure the Magna's have that by lessoning the strain on the engine/auto when in Drive under brakes? Has anybody else noticed this?

Maybe my old man isn't crazy after all?
He drives a second Gen Verada, so maybe he's just jealous.

I noticed my TJ does it more than my TR did. You'd think with the engine pushing forward it wouldn't roll back, but it does.

just keep the foot on the accelerator so the power of the car takes the weight

Do you hate your gearbox????
You have two feet, learn how to use them in unison. many people do this every day when they drive a "manual" vehicle. only instead of balancing the clutch, your balancing the brake.
Alternativly, use the handbrake

well, when i was going to driving school, on hills i was told to, make the car hold its weight, i.e, put power through the wheels,
can i ask how is that damaging the gearbox? i'm just curious,
and how am i balancing the brake when my foot isn't on the brake?
